The Cleveland Indians are discussing a multi-year deal with free-agent closer Kerry Wood, and according to MLB.com, the two sides are "close" to a deal, but that has not been confirmed. Wood has pitched his entire 11-year career with the Chicago Cubs, but the Cubs said they would not re-sign Wood this offseason after they made a trade last month to acquire reliever Kevin Gregg from the Florida Marlins.

I can't help it, but I love Cliff Lee. With players like Lee, who needs closers?

December 10, 2008  09:34 AM ET

Because Lee can't pitch every night and the other losers in the Indians rotation need to be saved.

This guy has never made it through a whole season without being on the DL, very bad move.

Twenty million over two years seems like a whole heckuva lot for such a brittle pitcher.

December 10, 2008  05:31 PM ET

Besides a blister, since moving to the bullpen, Wood has stayed healthy.

Wow. Trevor Hoffman, please don't Kevin Towers off speed dial just yet...

December 10, 2008  09:51 PM ET

dollars to dog crap he'll get injured while signing the deal and end up on the 60 day dl. first ever rotator cuff injury from a Bic Pen.

Waste of $. The Indians are the only team to have anything to do with that unreliable arm. He's going to be a bust. (famous last words)
