CC Sabathia is not going to play on the West Coast. He is not going to play in the National League. CC Sabathia is going to be a Yankee, The Post has learned exclusively. After three straight days of face-to-face meetings between GM Brian Cashman and Sabathia, the big lefty decided he wants to spend the next six years of his career as a Yankee. The decision came late last night after Cashman flew to see Sabathia at his home in San Francisco. By the time the meeting was concluded, Sabathia had informed the Yankees that he had made his decision to call New York his baseball home, the Post has learned. There are still minor hurdles to finalize, notably that Sabathia must pass a physical. But after so much belief that Sabathia was stalling because he wanted to avoid New York, he agreed to the largest pitching contract in major league history, at least $140 million.

tampa bay, you can forget about last season, it was a good run.
boston...lol, you have no chance unless you sign tex. which you probably will. but still, you have no chance
Blue Jays? Your wonder boy better do it again this year, except youll be facing three amazing pitchers so...3v1, ur done
Anyone else left in this division? There used to be this team who had a player named Cal Ripken on them. Who were they again?

the evil empire does prevail. muahahaha

and for a second i thought CC had morals...guess not!

December 10, 2008  06:51 AM ET

Sorry Slinky. This might be the start of a new subset of conversations. It's not quite as bad as Giambi going to the Rays. It does look like Abreu who is one of my favorite players is not coming back. If that helps any.

NYY25to13: oh ye of little faith.

December 10, 2008  06:57 AM ET

Too bad for CC. Any time a big name pitcher goes to the Yanks he gets worse.

I guess he didn't want to go to the Dodgers after all.

I forgot, who are the other starters for the Yankees? Oh yeah, Wang, who was hurt bad last year, Chamberlin, who was injured twice last year and Sabathia. Who else do you have? Going after injury prone pitchers, I guess you didn't learn with Pavano when you go after Sheets and Burnett.

Back to trying to buy a championship. Well, the more things change, the more they stay the same. Also, I thought you had all these stud young pitchers, oh yeah, no one else wanted to trade for them either.

Lets compare staffs.....

Beckett
Matsuzaka
Lester
Wakefield
Buchholz, Masterson, Lowrie

Yankees

Sabathia
Chamberlin
Wang

Still lots of work to do to be a legit contender. Burnett looks like he is going to the Braves, Lowe has already stated a desire to go back to Boston.

Randy Johnson, Kevin Brown, Javier Vazquez, Jeff Weaver, and so on. Track record isn't really good here.

I guess the only way to get a player to NY is to overpay. Nothing new to see here, let's all move along.....

There must be a reason he didn't want to go to NY, that would waive a red flag to me. If he doesn't want to be there, he may not give the effort he did in Milwaukee pitching on short rest and so forth. I'd be a little nervous about that.

and the sox pitching staff?

you got DK, who walks everyone on the planet
Josh Beckett, who PRETENDS to be ok (when we all know his **** is injured (12-10WL last year)
you got wakefield, whos like 80 years old and throws 2mph knuckleballs that knows how to hit
curt schilling? yeah, he was good, but the cortisone wore off. who else is left? seriously.

December 10, 2008  07:18 AM ET

Gahook I think he did want to go out west but I guess he wasn't willing to take a discount. No way someone else would give him $140 million, guess $120 million just not good enough.

December 10, 2008  07:18 AM ET

Keep trying to forget about the other pitchers, like Lester. How many playoff games has the combined starting pitching staff for the Yankees won? I believe that Lester, Beckett, or Wakefield alone have won more. Can't buy that kind of experience.

Oh, the shot at Wakefield, as long as he is effective, who cares how old he is?

Schilling didn't pitch last year and the Sox still beat the Yankees in the division. Did you notice that the Yankees didn't make the playoffs and lost 2 starters, 1 who won 20 games?

Still, that raises a red flag to me. His desire was to go one place, the union puts pressure on him to reset the pitching market to go to another. There is a LONG track record of players going where they don't want to go and not performing well.

December 10, 2008  07:24 AM ET

True I wouldn't be suprised if the union did pressure him behind the scenes. Still after reading about the signing I died a little bit inside. It just makes my hate for the Yankees grow stronger.
