Jones tries to explain Barber remarks

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday he never meant to question Marion Barber's toughness when he said after Sunday's loss to Pittsburgh that Barber could have played with his dislocated pinkie toe. "We all know how tough Marion Barber is, but when he had his injury I felt, look, you'd have to shoot him to keep him off the football field," Jones said. "So I was surprised that we didn't have him. That's not meant to be critical of his toughness. It did come out that way, but fundamentally it was because he is so tough that you would have thought that he could play." The team's athletic and medical staffs determined Saturday that Barber could not play and needed to stay in Dallas for treatment. Barber also has a sore right calf that stemmed from running he did while rehabbing the toe injury. After the 20-13 loss to the Steelers, Jones said it was Barber's decision to sit out.

Jerry...please don't turn into Al Davis. Just sit in your box, high five players on the sideline, and sign the checks.

Don't try to clean it up now schmuck!!!

No matter what Jerry says, people are going to have opinions and thoughts about him before they even read the story. This is another non-story..

The only story that matters is that the Cowboys are 3 point favorites this week. They played a very physical game last week. I think you have to make them a favorite to grab a play off spot. Jacobs has two bad knees now and the Giant receivers are capable, but they do not scare anyone. Will be a great game. All this other stuff is just writers filling deadlines. Who cares?

Wow 3 point favorites? I hope the defense comes out and plays like against Pittsburgh, that was an outstanding Super Bowl-caliber style defensive showing.

Lets just hope Jason Garrett gives Choice some freaking carries this game. It took 12 weeks to evaluate talent to let him play?? PISS POOR coaching.

To be fair, I read alot of comments from Wade Phillips early on, and he didn't sound too thrilled with Choice either. Maybe he looked bad in practice or something, but he should get more carries and playing time.

Cowboys now have a chip on their shoulder. Hope they use it properly.

I expect Barber to have a great game if given the carries. He doesn't say much(actually I've never heard him talk), but he seems like he's a prideful player.

December 10, 2008  08:10 AM ET

Barber is over-rated... I say start Choice and return Barber to his 'change of pace' status that he did so well last year...

Barber doesn't have that 'home-run' capability that Choice has...

December 10, 2008  08:15 AM ET

Hey I hope Barbers injuries keep him out one more week. Cowboys are still a scary team and need this win badly so they are going to be fired up to get this win to say the least. Giants have 3 tough games coming up and this would be a good win to get us going into the playoffs.

Totally agree with that one.

December 10, 2008  08:24 AM ET

I hope they tie............that would mess both teams up. We don't want dem boys
winning and give them hope, and NYG's can fall off that mountain with another
loss. The Panthers game has switched to Sunday night Vs. NYG the following week
so all I want for Christmas is for the boys to rough up the NYG's....but tie..ha ha..

December 10, 2008  08:25 AM ET

Jerry Jones may be able to play corner for the Cowboys with a backpedal that impressive.

December 10, 2008  08:48 AM ET

bla bla bla, maybe the next al davis in waiting? God I hope not...

December 10, 2008  08:52 AM ET

**** ... favored over the Giants. Thats amazing. Whats up with the G-Men? Is barber gonna be back?

I agree to a certain extent. Jacobs has two bad knees and two very capable backups. Marion Barber has one bad toe and one guy who showed us all something last week. I got news for everyone - in the 4th quarter, when Tashard Choice is "tired" again, nobody is going to feel sorry.

While I don't think the Giants are invincible, I think this past week was more of an abbaration than anything else. When was the last time this team's offensive and defensive lines were blown off the ball? They lost the battles up front, which made it impossible to run or stop the run, which made it impossible to throw, especially when guys like Steve Smith and Hixon are dropping passes - big passes, at that (a gamebreaking one, a few 3rd downs, and a 4th down).

QUOTE(#16):

careful, you'll get a bunch of Cowboy homers that are in love with Barbers nutsack coming after ya....Barber is average, mediocre on his best day...he's WAY overpaid....as the main RB, he should have about 400-600 more rushing yards than he currently has....last season he didn't even get to 1000 yards and they gave him a $45 million contract...

Yes, he's overrated. He has a career avg. of 4.3, while your boy Portis who you love has an avg. of 4.5. What a huge difference..

December 10, 2008  09:01 AM ET

he is just trying to put a twist in his stupid comment i think the repercssions are getting to him.these people think blacks don't feel pain or injuries and should play no matter what.

Much larger sample size for Portis, in all fairness.
