Cowher in line to coach Redskins?
Redskins coach Jim Zorn may be vying for his job over the final three games. Sports talk callers aren't the only ones wondering whether the Redskins might have Bill Cowher on speed dial for 2009. Redskins Park sources are also pondering if the team's 1-4 collapse to practically ruin its once sure playoff chances could also claim the coach. "The honeymoon is definitely over," said one team insider of Redskins owner Dan Snyder and Zorn. Zorn was given a modest contract by NFL standards as insiders questioned whether Washington was awaiting Cowher's possible return in 2009. Indeed, Cowher recently told The Washington Times that Snyder tried to lure him from retirement before hiring Zorn despite the owner's earlier denial.

LOL! The Bill Cowher sweepstakes continues...in Washington?!? Please...Snyder needs a GM, that's all. All of the pieces are in place except for an offensive line and a defensive line.

The NFL is CUT-THROAT... How are you gonna hire Zorn as a rookie coach and then expect him to work miricles?? Now all of a sudden he hasn't been good enough? Shameful... This is why i'm not mad at any player who says screw their contract and wants more money!!!

When teams are winning, everything is great. When they start losing, it's time for a coaching change? He's been on the job 13 games. That's not a fair judgment. No offense to you Redskins fans, but the Redskins aren't that great of a team. Other than the loss to the Rams early, what team did they lose to that they were better then?

He looked strong for awhile, then faded. It is not as bad as the Oakland job, but the owner spends a lot of money and he wants it now.

Exactly. They played to their talent level and at times above it. Good defense, but NO pass rush. One dimensional offense. Not much in the passing game. They were picked to come in fourth in the division, and that is where they will most likely finish. Not a bad team, just not a play off caliber team right now.

I hope they don't start the coaching carousel again. I'd like to see the Skins stick with Zorn for a few years longer. And why exactly is Cowher considered a great coaching option?? I know he got them to the Super Bowl, but he also lost in the playoffs like 13 times.

It's not ZORN as he has turned the team around as they won't make
play-offs, but had a decent year. Snyder is an as*, and he should be
blamed. The players are the ones missing tackles, getting burned on
so many 3rd downs, and the offense...Campbell may not be the answer,
Portis runs hard when he wants to, and now is running his mouth (he's
had a few crucial fumbles)...........Skins need players.....blame all around.

No way should Zorn be fired. Many people didn't expect much, if anything, from the 'Skins this year, especially after having Campbell learn his third different offense in as many seasons. Yes, they have tapered off drastically, but they are as their record indicates, a 7-6 team. And last I checked, that really isn't a fireable offense, especially for a first-year coach that is coaching a team with average expectations. Spurrier got two years, and did nothing. At least give Zorn another year, Snyder.

This is the forth team that I have heard Cowher is going to go to. At this point, I wouldnt put much stock in him going to the Redskins.

Keep Zorn.
This is much more about personnell than coaching right now.
Why do we worry about coaching so much when maybe we should look one step above, at the front office?

Bill's not dumb enough to work for Snyder. He'll want to go someplace (if he goes at all) where he has control, and not a boss that is hovering over him like Snyder or Jones.

You're speaking from a fans point of view. Anyone outside and neutral, would tell you the Cowboys have more talent and are a better team then the Cowboys. And the Ravens defense is so superior then the Redskins offense, they are clearly the better team as well.

The skins have personnel problems - clearly that is their big issue. Snyder is enamored with the big name FA and they can't draft for crap. Zorn has done a decent job but your only as good as the tools that you have. Once teams saw some film they were able to make adjustments b/c the offense is really one dimensional. Contain Portis and rush campbell. I don't know if campbell is the answer but I'd think you'd have to give it a few more years. This team does not control the line of scrimmage on either side of the ball - and that is the problem.
The other bothersome things is Portis calling out the coach in public - after one game. That is pretty bad. I think Zorn has his issues, but he clearly got more out of this team than anyone expected. But they have to play perfect football to win and they did that in the early part of the season.
If Snyder replaces Zorn it will be just another mistake...
