UCLA coordinator finalist for San Diego State job
UCLA defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker is continuing to talk with San Diego State officials and appears to be among the finalists for the coaching job there, sources close to the situation said today. The sources required anonymity because they are not yet allowed to speak about the job on the record. Walker declined to comment but had previously said that he was in contact with both the Aztecs and New Mexico State. He recently withdrew himself from consideration at Utah State, which subsequently hired Utah defensive coordinator Gary Andersen as its coach. Walker's name also has come up in connection with coordinator openings at Louisiana State -- he worked with LSU Coach Les Miles at Oklahoma State -- and in the NFL.

He deserves a head coaching job, more so than Ogden did from SC. Of course I would love to see him leave UCLA, because he is a really good DC and recruiter. Hopefully K. Norton won't leave SC to replace him at UCLA

Agreeing. I would love to see him get a shot down here and see what he does as the head man. Definitely impressed with what he did on the defensive side.

Walker is the perfect guy for State... He has West Coast ties... All the recruits know who he is... And have watched him do some really good things with the D at UCLA... He may not land a 5 Star recruit... But he would definitely bring in more 4 and 3 Star guys... And he has shown he can coach... I think they would be foolish... To pass on him

At bruinsnation.com, they're all griping over Pete Carroll giving DeWayne Walker a positive recommendation to SDSU. The Bruin fans are so pathetic, it really takes away any natural sympathy a rival would have toward another rival with a 9-1 record over the last 10 years. This is real life people, PC doesn't care if he's beating DeWayne Walker on D or some other tomato-can, but Walker is an ex-coordinator under PC and unless he were totally incompetent it would be pretty insulting for Carroll to give him a downgrade. And finally, if Walker leaves UCLA to become a head coach it isn't because PC wants him to leave UCLA, it's because it's a better career opportunity. With that being said, I don't expect any moronic bruins to read CNN, so I'm probably wasting my fingertip strength to type this.

Wow, Sandy Underpants, you're both bitter AND uninformed.
The Bruin fans at bruinsnation.com are skeptical because the SDSU job is beneath what DWalker deserves. Read the original article by Brian Dohn, and read the subsequent blogposts. Knowing that the UCLA defense has fought USC well for the past 3 straight years, and knowing that better coaching jobs shoud be open soon, isn't it reasonable to question if Pete Carroll is hoping to see DWalker leave the Pac-10?
Furthermore: Did Pete Carroll call Univ. of Washington this year to support Dwalker as a coaching candidate? Of course not. Pete Carroll's motives may be entirely honorable, but some of the data is not consistent with that, and that's why there is discussion.
Of course, a moronic trojan can barely read, so I'm probably wasting my fingertip strength typing this.

Seems like you're the one with the reading difficulties.
Brian Dohn wrote the blurb for the daily news that was linked to Bucknellbruin's whine and venom hatchet job on bruinsnation.com. Pete Carroll didn't recommend Walker to UW because he was already supporting his own staff member's pursuit of that job, which of course he got. As far as I'm aware, UW wasn't even interested in Dewayne Walker, so your suggestion doesn't even make sense to someone who isn't a whiny bruin. From what I've seen at BN, loser Bruins always find an angle to whine about, regardless of reality. You're saying that it's wrong for PC to recommend Walker for SDSU, but it would have been right (or better) for PC to recommend him for UW? Stupid.
I mean whining about Pete Carroll wanting to do home and home jerseys. Whining about Pete Carroll speaking highly of his assistants and former assistants to help them get better jobs, and all the other stupid crap Bruins whine about that I don't bother to check the other 49 weeks out of the year, is really ridiculous. You guys whined away a coach that averaged 3 more wins per season than the current guy and you're happy about that. Which only shows how smart UCLA Bruins aren't.
BTW, The Trojans are just as happy with CRN as the Bruins are.

Underwear, it's funny that you call other people whiny. Your own post has the most whiny comments I've ever seen!
You are not understanding the point of the bruinsnation.com discussion, which is to be expected, considering your background. No one will ever know what was on PC's mind when he recommended Kiffin for the Raiders (failure) or when he recommended Orgeron for Ole Miss (failure) or when he recommended Walker for SDSU (....). The folks at bruinsnation.com are simply pointing out-- with their typical enthusiasm -- that
(1) the SDSU program has never had success and has been a graveyard for coaches,
(2) with an even average offense, which is expected next year, DW's results would improve and he could land a higher-profile HC job, and
(3) PC would probably benefit from seeing DW leave the Pac-10. DW's defenses, even with subpar recruiting and a horrific 3-and-out offense, kept USC to 13, 24, and 28 points in the last 3 years. No other DC in all of college football has shown such great ability to do so much with so little.
You can't dispute any of the three points. It's amazing that you would want to question why UCLA fans, on a UCLA sports website, would discuss these points when a PC recommendation may deprive them of a pretty good recruiter/DC. What's even more amazing is that you would try to say that Karl Dorrell shouldn't have been fired, because he averaged more wins. That's like saying that Steve Lavin is a better coach than Ben Howland, because Howland went 11-17 in his first year. You're brilliant.
Compare our posts. I'm organized, got the actual facts. You're complaining about why UCLA fans are mistreating poor Pete Carroll.
Now, who's being whiny?

And don't try to call Bruins "moronic" and "stupid." Not when USC is perpetually ranked below UCLA in academics. Intelligence is a battle that trojans simply can't win, so do yourself a favor and don't bring it up.

Please Jabronie, the most successful people in the world came out of USC, not UCLA, and there's a reason for that. From George Lucas and Robert Zemeckis all the way to Joe Francis, there's a reason you see all the mercedes in LA with USC Alumni license plate frames and the UCLA Alumni frames are always on the beat up old Hondas.
You made some very organized points, too bad they lack any semblence of rationality.
1) SDSU isn't a premiere program, but guess what, nobody wants a Head Coach with no head coaching experience who's been part of a losing program for years. You have to start somewhere, and while SDSU is not in UCLA's league as far as a program goes, when Walker proves himself there and develops success then he'll probably be in line to replace Neuweasel when he gets fired in another 3 years. Perfect timing if you ask me.
2) UCLA wouldn't even hire DW as head coach when he was the obvious successor to Karl Dorrell, how the heck is he going to go to another "high profile" program when the Bruins turn themselves around... in the year 2012? UCLA has the lowest standards for their football program of any "high profile" program in D1-A and they kept Durrell for how many years? If they didn't want Walker to fill that HC job, what program would? Washington St.?
3) You really think PC is trying to get rid of DW because he's caused so many problems for the Trojans? I thought paranoia comes with success. USC has only beat UCLA 66% of the time with DW as the UCLA D-coordinator. And it makes a lot of sense coming on the heels of USC just demolishing UCLA, again, that Pete would pull this powerplay. Obviously PC is just trying to salvage the failing Trojan program.
Paranoid Bruins can whine and gripe all they want, was just pointing out how ridiculous it is. Especially when Pete does the same thing, year in and year out for people ON HIS STAFF. It would be like saying he's trying to sabotage himself. Keep speculating/crying Bruins, you're gonna go through a lot of coaches before you can finally quit your whining.

Walker is a great fit....on the D side of the ball, and MAY make it as a head coach. Having said that, who will run the O side? I wish him well in getting a head coaching job , if it comes, but I'm sure he'll be asked at the interviewing process, "Who will be in charge of the offence?"

Your comments really destroy your credibility, so I really don't need to say much more.
1. Most successful people in the world out of USC? That's funny. Try looking at academic rankings (USNWR), Nobel Laureates, and too many parameters to list. But if you want to believe that USC is a better school, keep deluding yourself. Even your fellow trojans won't come to your side on this issue.
2. If you have to resort to talking about money to make yourself feel better, you are most certainly a trojan. It's sad that you think your comment makes you look good. And here's the big difference between us: I'm one of those rare Bruins, being an Ivy-League grad, UCLA for grad school, worth millions, making 400K/year, but I only talk about money when trojans try to pretend they're better. I'm still more proud of my brains than my car. That's what makes me a Bruin.
3. Your comment about SDSU just shows that you agree with my point, which is that DWalker belongs at a better HC job (BCS conference team). You think he should start at SDSU, a Mountain West backwater that gets paid to lose to Pac-10 teams. I think he should wait one year, then become HC at a low-profile BCS team...still much better than SDSU. Is it ok for people to have a different valid viewpoint from you? Oh no...that's considered whining.
4. You're trying to minimize DW's effect against USC, and that's just making you look bad. Ask any trojan if they'd be happy if DW left. If you can't acknowledge that, you're in your own little world.
5. Finally, for a trojan, you care WAY too much what Bruin fans say on their website. Seriously. you need to let other fans vent and maybe even whine, because there was plenty of that going on at USC in the 90's when UCLA owned USC. If you don't like complaints about Pete Carroll, then stop visiting UCLA fan websites.

Whatever Bruin. You can pretend all you want about your fantasy job and fantasy life. You got destroyed on the facts, and now you want talk about your fake personal income. Only another moronic Bruin would believe your bullcrap.
The bottom line is that at UCLA you are taught to be a follower and a good one at that. At USC you are taught to be a leader, and every alumni I know is a Business owner and/or CEO. Every Bruin I know is looking for a better job. Sorry if that hurts your fragile ego.
Don't worry, I don't care what is said about Pete Carroll on Bruin whine sites, I was just mentioning how ridiculous the comments were. They seem to be your lifes work, and that's fine. Vilify Pete Carroll for giving a recommendation to his former employee seeking a better job opportunity. Nobody cares. USC will beat D-Walker at UCLA or SDSU, I could give a crap either direction.
You can tell how (ir)relevant the UCLA football program is by the amount of people commenting on this thread. See ya next year, for your annual beatdown.

Well, my grandparents both graduated USC. And went to graduate school. They were teachers. So that destroys your credibility. My best friends parents went to USC. They are teachers. My best friend went there. He failed out (read: partied too much on parent's dime).

Shows exactly why you are a trojan, you cannot carry on a valid argument without insulting others. Sure, I will concede that usc has the better football program right now, but that is it. UCLA is far superior in every other aspect. Look it up, it is the truth and you know it that's why it hurts you to admit it. UCLA, on a yearly basis, outperforms usc in academics, sports (minus football), and prestige. USC is only known because of its football program and would otherwise be unknown. UCLA on the other hand is constantly outperforming in research and technology. If you have a brain you will look this up and realize that you are a brainless individual who knows nothing about the school you claim to represent. All this and UCLA does it with a smaller annual budget! Says a lot about your private school doesn't it? So keep on living in dreamland and pretend usc is better, after all that is the only thing you've got.

Hate to see DW go but he deserves a shot. No doubt he will improve the disaster that is SDSU's football program.
As for UCLA...we are two seasons away from competing for the Rose Bowl again. Just like Howland took 2 years to turn around the hoops program, Neu and Chow will have football at the top again soon.
Carroll's total lack of competition in recruiting the west coast is over
