Jarvis Giles, a highly-rated running back from Gaither High in Tampa, Fla., has committed to South Carolina. Giles, who is 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds, had also strongly considered Tennessee, but the coaching change there helped solidify his commitment to the Gamecocks, he said at the news conference. He has 4.4-second speed in the 40-yard dash, and Rivals.com ranks him as the No.2 all-purpose back in the country. South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier and his staff are looking for speed, and Giles' explosiveness could get him into the lineup quickly. Giles is graduating early and expects to enroll in Columbia for the spring semester.

Must have gotten paid, I thought no one could resist the recruiting prowess of Lane Kiffin.

December 10, 2008  09:22 AM ET

Kind of surprised he didn't go back to Tennessee with the Kiffin hiring especially with Reaves being the one who brought him on with South Carolina in the first place.

Well this must mean that the Ole Ball Coach can still sell the vision.

Go Gators! I mean, go Ole Ball Coach, the greatest Gator ever. Maybe if Machen leaves his presidency post and if Meyer leaves in 2010 for Notre Dame, maybe the Gators can get Lombardi back from LSU (that will never happen) and Spurrier from South Carolina.

Kiffin better pick up that recruiting!

This is a huge get for SC, their RBs are garbage right now.

December 10, 2008  11:42 AM ET

Spurrier - 1
Kiffin - 0

Their QBs aren't much better. Maybe they can go to a running attack instead of relying on their QBs.

Once Meyer is done living off Tebow Kool-aid, he'll start looking for another place to go. I mean does Meyer even coach the team or does he just let Tebow wear the headsets and run the offense, defense and special teams?? I think Tebow is great, and I think times are going to get rough in Gator country when he's gone.

Yeah, Can we get this guy for our bowl game?!?!?!

December 10, 2008  01:27 PM ET

Have fun running behind a terrible OL Giles. The SC offensive line is pure garbage...and it won't be any better next year. This is the third year in a row without a single interior OL in their recruiting class...and the 6 currently on their roster JeanPierre, Batchelor, Eckerson, Brown, Campbell & Young are all terrible.

December 10, 2008  04:05 PM ET

Tennessee already has the #1 APB coming in and 3 RBs on the roster who are better than Giles...he didnt want to have to compete for pt so he took the easy way out

Shout out to Simpsonville - I used to live there.

He's the #2 APB in the nation and he's going to South Carolina? Didn't any GOOD teams offer him a scholarship?

True. Tebow IS 1/2 that football team. Can you say 7-5 once he leaves?

Maybe he didn't want go to the midwest or west coast. Too far from home. Course he could have looked at Ala/Auburn

How did the #2 APB in the nation ever leave the stae of Florida? This kid could have signed with USF and played in front of his family every saturday. How he did not end up @ UF or FSU is truly a mystery, the only thing I can say is that he got conned by the Old Ball Coach that SC. is going to start running the ball more. Highly unlikely, Spurrier does run the ball approx. 45% of the time. But Spurrier will abandon the running game if they get behind in the first quarter. Good luck kid I hope you made the right choice.

Guess you could have said that about the Clemson line earlier this year. But with a good top 10/15 recruiting class and likely starting QB Garcia from the same high school that may have weighed a factor.

As usual quote # 13 is showing his so called expertise in college footbal. His user name should tell everyone of his ability. 7-5 without Teabow, don't see that happening. Not with the constant High Quality recuiting classes Meyer brings in. And Brantley is no slouch at quaterback. Tim T. is a great player and person. If Fla. would be 7-5 now without TT Then he defenitely deserves that secound Heismen. I can assure you that secound N Championship is of a higher priorityTo TT than another Heismen though. Some bloggers can sure show thier ignorance. or is it due to jealousy that makes them make such stupid comments

You can't really believe 7-5. Seriously.

Do you mean the top 10/15 recruiting class that features one OL....another OT at that??? The same top 10/15 recruiting class with 8 more DB's and 3 WR's to add to the 14 DB's and 18 WR's already on the roster???

What good is any RB going to do you when the OL is garbage???

I'd go to the vols
