Rutgers AD denies offering resignation
Robert E. Mulcahy III, the Rutgers athletic director who shepherded the university into an era of big-time college sports but whose tenure was also marked by ethics scandals, will resign his position, according to a statement released Wednesday by the university's president, Richard L. McCormick. But in a brief telephone interview later Wednesday Mulcahy said, "I was asked to resign this afternoon, but I did not offer my resignation." The disagreement over the details of Mulcahy's exit comes three weeks after an independent review committee harshly criticized both Mulcahy and McCormick for what it said was lax oversight and poor financial management of the university's athletic department. The committee concluded that Mulcahy should have disclosed to the university that his son worked for a sports marketing firm that paid Greg Schiano, the football coach, $250,000 a year. However, it did not find that Mulcahy had violated ethical rules and did not call for his resignation.

The stupid media is soooooo misleading, it is just rediculous. The actual report said that the Rutgers athletic department did nothing wrong. It may have made some bad decisions that led to overspending, but no action against the department or any individual involved was warrented.

Where's the ECK Jersey comment here? Mulcahy's getting the shaft bc Zoff started a media storm. Hopefully history will treat Mulcahy better for what he has done for the revenue generating sports programs. He's given Rutgers grads something to be proud of.
