This is all a bit premature. He's a long way from being ready to pitch.

Bring him in to the Bullpen for the Tigs to help take up the mentor role that Todd Jones used to provide. Besides, this would allow Smoltz to come home, and Tigers to mitigate one of the worst trades in sports history.

To the mets, nice work getting Putz. I wanted him in Tiger stripes badly... I question how much he is going to accept being a set-up man. Not a bad move though, since K-rod could end his career after any single pitch due to his violent delivery.

I just hope we don't break the bank on Fuentes now. Bring in a cheap stop gap like Hoffman to help split saves with a guy like Rodney. I think I am ok trading a young promising outfielder (Joyce) for a young promising starter (Jackson). But since it doesnt look like we getting a top notch starter bring in Hoffman and a guy like Beimel to help bring consistency to the bullpen, even if they've lost a step.

I feel for you, SR. Long-distance relationships are almost always doomed to failure.

I agree on everything there- but I see us in no way persuing Fuentes. I think if we could only pull off three more things this off season I would go after Hoffman to close, Lyon to set up and or close off and on, and Smoltz who can start, or be in the bullpen. Those three guys. Right not Detroit has Verlander, Galaragga, Jackson, Miner, Bondo (?), Robertson (?), and Willis (?). If Smoltz is picked up and goes to starting he can mentor the younger arms there well. Hoffman in the pen can do the same thing. We picked up ALOT of relivers last draft and they'll need good coaches and mentors to keep them form blowing up like Zoom Zoom. But I see little hope of Fuentes being a Tiger. Just out of the team price range...

And pitches really well. This guy is a gamer, he would throw left-handed if it would help the team. Love to see him finish his career in Atlanta is he is sound.

Smoltz could help a lot of clubs. No doubt rehabbing like a mad man, too. In my opinion, he doesn't have to accomplish anything more to make it to the HOF, but whatever else he does will burnish his already shiny credentials.

Look at Smoltz's stats in the last 5 years. He still is great and if the Braves get rid of him they are dumb.
