The Washington Nationals, according to mlb.com, have made an eight-year, $160-million offer to Mark Teixeira, an average of $20 million a year, and the Baltimore Orioles reportedly have made an offer, believed to be for seven years and about $150 million. The Angels, according to General Manager Tony Reagins, have discussed "the parameters" of a deal with agent Scott Boras, who represents Teixeira, but they haven't made a formal offer.

The yanks need to go ahead and Sign Manny pronto...otherwise if the Angels miss out on Tex they will drive up the price for ManRAm

That would be hilarious if the Nats got him. There wouls STILL be no reason to go out to that ballpark. One man is not going to change the fortunes of the Nats, and they haven't otherwise done anything spectacular this offseason. Now if they got Manny, that would put butts in the seats around here.

The Nats need to sign Tex and start building a core around him. Of course if this ends up like all DC sports teams big pick ups he will be a horrible bust.

There is no doubt in my mind that the Angels will keep Tex.After losing K-rod they canyt afford to lose one of the best players in the game.Man i wish the Yanks had gone after him instead of CC.

He wants to go to a winning team, so forget the Nats and Orioles. The Angels and Red Sox are likely winners, but he supposedly wants an East Coast team.
Go Sox!

Theo Epstein realizes that Mark Teixeira is the exact kind of person and player he always looks for. As recent years have shown, if the Red Sox want something bad enough, they can ante up the dollars. This is at a time when the Red Sox lineup is in danger of heading south. I believe he will sign with Boston because Fenway is the best combination of what he is looking for. A winning team, short and long term (Boston's farm system is one of the deepest) that is close to his family in the Baltimore area and of course the money. Also, Theo Epstein and Scott Boras have had a good relationship over the years. Teixeira very well may sign with the Angels or even the Yankees WITH Sabathia because they just about literally have a bottomless wallet. Or he could take a hometown discount to play in Baltimore or Washington D.C. Teixeira will ultimately sign his own contract, if he is true to his word, it sounds like the Dropkick Murphys to me.

Yeah. Real barn burner.

December 11, 2008  03:28 PM ET

He needs to sign with the Angels but either way.....get this crap done Borasss.....

I want him on my Halos but his $200M+ contract will drive up prices.....so now the Angels are looking at Raul Ibanez...

yeah I can see the similarities and why Ibanez and not Tex.....gessh!

go orioles!

December 11, 2008  03:59 PM ET

Baltimore has good young talent now Adam Jones, Aubry Huff, Nick Markakis, and Jermey Guthrie. Plus 2 good young pitchers in the draft and Matt Weiters will come up this year. They to have talent to buld around and money to spend. They need 2 solid pitchers untill the two they just drafted are ready. And the Yanks have had a tough time with the O's the last couple years finishing close to 500 against B-more. MAYBE next year but deff in 2 years they will be fighting with the rest of the division... the best division by far in MLB

Mark Teixeira will probably wind up with the Redsox, I expect the Yankee Wallets will drive his price upward towards the $200 million mark. Manny, Will more than likely wind up on the NY Latinos err Mets. Minaya has yet to meet a Latin player he wouldn't sign.
Mark Teixeira has said he wanted to play in a "winning" organization that by default leaves the Nationals and The Orioles out of the equation, though with Bor-**** as his agent you never know if either one outbids the Redsox Bor-**** will make him sign there.
Damn Anyone remember when the Orioles were actually a class organization?? That owner has to go.

It would be like ARod to the Rangers.... minus the MVPs.....

December 11, 2008  07:13 PM ET

If he accepts the nats/o's offer he is out of his mind. The Redsox will give him the chance to win atleast three world series rings over his eight years. But its AROD all over again, playing for dollars.
