Bradford to test NFL draft status

Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford told the Oklahoman that he will seek NFL input about his possible draft status. "It's something me and my dad talked about -- in order to make a decision, in order to make the best decision, you need as much information as possible," Bradford told the newspaper. "So whether it's to stay or to go, we'll see." With many underclassmen, it's a hypothetical exercise. In Bradford's case, it carries far more immediate implications. He's developed into a potential first-round pick this season as a red-shirt sophomore. If he wins the Heisman and/or the national championship, his stock might never be higher.

There's no doubt in my mind that Sam Bradford would be 1 of the top 2 QBs taken in the 2009 NFL Draft if he declares.

I hope he hangs around for another year, but even if he doesn't, the Sooners will be just fine. They've got a redshirt in waiting by the name of Landry Jones. Oklahoma shouldn't see much fall off at the QB position with that kid.

Like I said, he redshirted this year so ZERO. But how many snaps had Bradford taken before his first start in 2007? That's right, ZERO. Landry Jones will do just fine with Josh Heupel and Kevin Wilson in his ear.

Good gawd... witha coach that leaves his 1st string guys in and tacks on touchdown after touchdown in the throw away momnets of the 4th Quarter when they have already clinched the game... anyone could put up Bradford stats

December 11, 2008  10:02 AM ET

I think he would get drafted in the 1st round, but he is NOT a top 5 pick. The Pros don't give a rip about who ya play for...

December 11, 2008  10:05 AM ET

Bradford should go. He had an amazing season and should be in the position to profit off of it.

December 11, 2008  10:22 AM ET

unfortunately for me and sooner nation Bradford will and should go. he will be a top 5 pick and in my opinion should be the first QB taken simply because of his decision making skills. they have stafford slated as number 1 but to me he makes way more mistakes then Bradford.

on a side not Colt said he's coming back, i wonder why, maybe because he would be a 5th round pick or a 4th rounder if he was lucky

December 11, 2008  10:24 AM ET

With how much money these guys are getting thrown at them there's only one option... go. Case in point... Aaron Rodgers. It's working out for him now, but when it's time to go it's time to go. Just cross your fingers he doesn't end up a Lion.

December 11, 2008  11:15 AM ET

Stafford of UGA will be the first QB taken if he comes out.

I think Bradford is using the NFL as leverage to get a better summer job at OU.

:)

December 11, 2008  11:41 AM ET

Probably also depends on whether they win in January.

Colt wants to win something, Heisman or National Title, and he would not be a 4th round pick. He goes in the 2nd at the latest. He competes with Tebow in the 2010 draft.

Ah, I'm so sick of hearing this crap. Name one game where Bradford has played more than one series in a 4th quarter during a blowout. Other than the Missouri game, I'm going to say there are NONE. And Stoops even clarified the Missouri game by pointing out that it is a CHAMPIONSHIP game; no need to pull starters. And as a fan, I wanted to see them hit 60 again.

Facts:
OU scored zero points in 4th quarter against A&M. Still put 60+ up.
OU scored 3 points in 2nd Half against KSU. They had 55 at halftime. If they score another TD, they record is 60+ in 6 games.

So shut up if you don't know what the F* you are talking about.

December 11, 2008  01:02 PM ET

As a Sooner fan I wish he would stay but he would be crazy to. From what I hear the NFL will have a rookie salary cap starting for the 2010 draft. And if that is the case Colt is crazy for staying, even if he ends up being second or third round.

why don't you sooner fans IGNORE this if you feel so strongly insteaad of feeding the fire?

Landry Jones is a sure thing? Remember the golden boy Rhett Bomar? He was OK but nowhere near phenominal; mediocre at best.

completion percentage and int/TD ratio have nothing to do with how long you are on the field. They do however determine if you will have already clinched the game in before the fourth quarter or before the half as in most cases. Grow a brain.

December 11, 2008  02:12 PM ET

Eh.. Bradford is a good QB, no doubt. But, no team runs "no-huddle" all the time in the NFL. OU's system is superb this year and that has led to a butt load of points. If a team can run no-huddle all the time (and keep defenses off balanced), then it is a lot easier to find open guys. And the fact that you have arguably the best receiving corps in the country makes it that much easier.

I don't think Sam is ready for Sundays just yet. I think one more year to get seasoned and bulk up would give him the best chance of success in the next stage. In my opinion, Harrell is more NFL ready than him, but just by a little bit. I'd pick Colt over these two (and Tebow) for his accuracy, mobility, and toughness. (Sorry, flipping like a rag doll at the goal line does not make one "tough" -- bowling over 2 defenders, however, does).

December 11, 2008  02:12 PM ET

You might want to think twice, going to the Lions or Rams pretty much means you get a big payday but have no future.

SOUNDS LIKE YOU DIDN'T WATCH OU PLAY THIS YEAR, FOR EXAMPLE SAM BRADFORD LAST TD PASS IN THE BIG12 CHAMPIONSHIP CAME WITH 10:42 LEFT IN THE 2ND QTR. STOOPS HAS CONSISTANTLY RAN THE BALL IN THE 4TH QTR AND YET OU STILL SCORES. THAT DOESN'T CONSTITUTE RUNNIG UP THE SCORE IF THE OPPOSING D CANT STOP THE RUN. I DO AGREE HE SHOULDN'T HAVE LEFT HIM IN THE GAME WITH 7MIN LEFT IN THE 4TH.
