Mets, Cubs talking trade

The Mets and Cubs are discussing a trade that would send Jason Marquis home to New York. Marquis, a Staten Island native, would fill a need in the Mets' rotation at a reasonable cost. The Cubs are offering to pay some of Marquis' $9.5-million 2009 salary to defray the cost. The Mets could also consider sending reliever Scott Schoeneweis to the Cubs to further offset Marquis' salary.

Just the type of mediocre number 4 starter the Mets need to help with next years collapse.

This would really make my day. LOL!

It would be worth it to get Shoenweis out of town, they already dunped Heilman.

He is so clutch that the Cardinals left him off the their playoff roster in 05 and so clutch that the Cubs left him off their playoff roster in 07, but if you want him he should fit right in.

He is self centered and no one is better than him, he will complain about not getting into the HOF on the first ballot because in his world he is the best.

No way the Mets compete in 2009 until they get themselves a starting rotation. They've got Santana, Pelfrey and who? Maine is coming back from shoulder surgery so don't count on him till you see him in action.

They're gonna have a sad season if they don't have anyone to get the lead to K-rod and Putz.

December 12, 2008  11:18 AM ET

He was good in Chi-town (meaning he won more than he loss) because he had a lot of run support to compliment his high ERA. Can the Mets do that???

December 12, 2008  01:01 PM ET

TO get rid of Shittyweis would be epic.

But can he pitch?

On occasion. I'm just not sure why the Cubs are looking to ship a starter out if they're not bringing Peavy or another starter in. Especially for Schoenweiss. Marquis may not be very good, but an old reliever isn't equivalent value even if the Mets pay his whole salary. I think this story is BS.

This just in... Cole Hamels said that Marquis is a Choke artist too!

Some days he can pitch great, some days he can't pitch at all. A one hitter five days after completely stinking up the place.

Then he'll whine for a year or two over being left off the playoff roster even though he posted a 9.00 ERA in September.

December 12, 2008  04:49 PM ET

I am 99.9% certain that if this trade goes down, it will be the first time in MLB history that one Jewish player gets traded for another.

Shabbat shalom, y'all!

Marquis thinks his poop doesn't stink because he hit that grand slam at Shea last September. He thinks he's Cy Young and Babe Ruth rolled into one. But Schoeneweis is 35 years old with a 4.91 ERA. We don't need another Howry, we just got rid of him. No thanks!

You are correct, sir.

glad you could agree...LOL

Here's a great example of Marquis' extreme inconsistency from 06.

In his wins 383 PA against him - batting line .210 .276 .349
In his losses 402 PA against him - batting line .372 .447 .692

He didn't really have a 9 ERA in September when we left him off the playoff roster. It was only 7.25.
