Hamels: Mets are 'choke artists'

If the World Champion Phillies are worried about the new-look Mets bullpen, they certainly aren't showing it. Philadelphia ace Cole Hamels called the Mets "choke artists" in an interview today on WFAN with Evan Roberts and Joe Benigno. "Last year and this year I think we did believe that," Hamels said when asked if the Mets are choke artists. "Three years ago we didn't because they smoked everybody, and I think we all thought they were going to win it all. Unfortunately that didn't happen. But, yeah, that's kind of what we believed and I think we're always going to believe that until they prove us wrong." Roberts gave Hamels a chance to back away from his comments, but the southpaw didn't.

He didn't come out and call them choke artists, he agreed with the perception that they choked away the last two seasons. 99% of all people who follow baseball agree with this perception.

That goes to show how the media loves to take things out of context just to create a little controversy when there is not much going on.

Cole Hamels is always right. Everything he has ever said is and will be correct

Yeah, the Mets won't remember this when they play 19 times next year...

I should show class and keep it to myself?

December 12, 2008  08:32 AM ET

This all comes down to the fact that he is right. Simple as that. I love that he said it. It makes the rivarly better. We might even see some fisticuffs this year. I love it. If someone drills him, so be it. We will drill one of their dancing, choking **** punks and it will be on. Good times will be had by all.

When you blow division leads in back-to-back Septembers, with the first being 7 games with 17 left, that by Websters Dictionary definition, would be a choke artist.

See here's the difference between the Mets and Phils. Jimmy said we were the team to beat, we won the division. Cole agreed the Mets are, as of right now, choke artists, and he is right. Don't get sensitive Mets fans, just win. Oh and by the way, remember Bobby Thigpen AFTER his record save season? Of course you don't, he was the never the same. Delgado older, Beltran is overrated and last time I checked, the rotation was s*it once you get by Santana. How'd that Pedro investment work out for ya?

And I hear they are looking at him again. I love it. They are AGAIN acting like they are going to the series this year because of Krod. They said the same thing when they got Santana. What they forgot is that Heart plays a factor in winning and the mutts just don't have any.

They can go and sign anyone they want, it won't matter because there is no heart on that team, with the exception of Wright.

as much as I hate to say it, he's right. Although I'd have prefaced that by saying the bullpen. I dont remember any of the starters or hitters falling apart. The bullpen collectively is still coughing.

I would definately spot a nice fastball in the ribs if I were a pitcher for the Mets. . . Brilliant Cole, Brilliant!!!
