Rutgers AD: I was fired

Robert E. Mulcahy said he was fired as Rutgers athletic director after refusing a request by university president Richard L. McCormick to resign. "When I asked if I had done anything wrong and was told 'No,' I felt there was no reason for me to offer my resignation," Mulcahy said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press on Thursday. "In effect, he terminated me." Mulcahy said he had no idea that McCormick would ask for his resignation when he was summoned to the president's office about 1 p.m. Wednesday. Mulcahy said he did not try to talk McCormick out of his decision after the president said the university was looking to go in a different direction with its athletic department. The firing, which will be effective on Dec. 31, came less than a month after an independent committee appointed to review the university's athletic program criticized Mulcahy, McCormick and other officials for failing to exercise proper oversight.

Classic New Jersey... something else is going on here we don't know about and it's way above Mulcahy or Greg Schiano. Folks in the NYC Tri-State area who listen WFAN 660 AM may want to turn on Mike Francesca today. Last night he put out the offer for the RU president to present his side of the story on air today.

Maybe they should get Paulie Walnuts to run the show.

I like how they put Schiano's picture up there and the story, in so much as its content, had nothing to do with him.

Is he involved in any way in this story other than that it affects him since he is the coach?

I heard his momma says he wasn't fired, but he resigned.

I think they should hire their most famous graduate; Tony Soprano.

Are you sure he wasn't whacked in the last episode?

I heard they're working on a movie. So, he probably wasn't.

I still think Paulie Walnuts or Big Puh-Cee would make better AD's

I'm shocked...SHOCKED! that there are implications that strange things are afoot at Rutgers. It's not like they went from decades of moribund mediocrity to winning seasons and perennial bowl team overnight...oh, wait. Nevermind.
