Sheets leaning toward Rangers?
The Brewers focused on their pursuit of pitching help Wednesday in an attempt to at least partially compensate for the free-agent loss of ace CC Sabathia to the New York Yankees. That search does not include a plan to make an offer to their other free-agent starting pitcher, Ben Sheets. General manager Doug Melvin said he met the previous day with Sheets and his agent, Casey Close, at the Bellagio, where baseball's winter meetings are being held. Melvin and assistant Gord Ash did not make a bid, however.Melvin was well aware of the interest being shown in Sheets by the Texas Rangers, at the urging of former Brewers pitching coach Mike Maddux (now with Texas), as well as the free-spending Yankees. Melvin said Sheets recently took his house off the market in Dallas, an indication he might get an offer from the Rangers.

You've got to admit they are throwing around 8 and 9 figure deals like it's nothing.

The Yankees have no choice but to spend big. Their world wide market will start to contract if they don't win.
They will also sign either Teixeira or Manny because right now A-Rod has no real protection in the lineup. You can't count on a broken down Matsui to give you many at bats.

now you see the rangers are thetype of team that simply
cannot sign oft-injured higer-priced players....
if he goes down, they cannot afford a replacement
- higher payroll teams- yanks/sox, etc CAN
this is a bad business decision if it's true on the rangers front

Sheets is more than welcome at the Ballpark! Remember what Millwood said about pitching at the ballpark.. he's not the only pitcher pitching that day, he just needs to pitch better than the other guy.

The only ones that should have sour grapes, are the Brewer fans. They are losing both their number 1 and 2 starters.......................isn't life great!!

Good, cause Burnett will likely be on the DL... we dont need (2) starters out for the season. CC, Burnett, Wang, Joba, Pettitte... Hughes in AAA waiting for Burnett to get hurt.
Pettitte 1 year $10 mill... Sheets would have been 2 years $30. Allows us to bid more and get Teixeira!

They have more division titles this decade, and those 13 straight playoff appearances and one 89 win season is not a sign of decline. that is the depths to which Boston fans, well this one anyway, need to go to to try and make themselves look like the Yankees looked to them for so many years, but you are not that to us, never will be. Enjoy your competitiveness, I do.
