Who has nation's best recruiting class?
Villanova put the finishing touches on arguably the nation's finest 2009 recruiting class yesterday when shooting guard Dominic Cheek of St. Anthony High School in Jersey City, N.J., announced his intention to play for the Wildcats. The 6-foot-5, 170-pound Cheek, ranked third nationally at his position by ESPNU and sixth by Rivals.com, chose Villanova over Kansas. He also had considered Rutgers, Pittsburgh and Memphis before recently reducing his options to a final two.

Good pickup by Nova. See, St. John's you can be successful at a Catholic college if you hired the right young coach.
And to think this guy was at Hofstra in our own back yard.

Wright has ALWAYS been a good recruiter.
- the Johnnies really need a new coach- Hova- you know that
Norm really has failed miserably - not all his fault- granted
They should've offered the deed to the school to Calipari
when they had the chance.....

At the college level, it's more about recruiting than it is about actual coaching ability. Jay Wright has proven to be first rate recruiter who can now compete with the Caliparis, Williamses and Coach K's of the B-ball world.
It's a shame St. John's has sunken so low. For the sake of the Big East I hope (and expect) things will turn around for them once they get a better coach. I think they need someone with a higher profile to bring them back from the abyss.

I like this pick up, Dominic has a ton of potential and will help the Cats out right from the start. I also like Jay Wright, he's a hell of ball coach and showed it during last season's tourney when they were being destroyed by Clemson and came back to win. Great Job with program, Jay...best of luck.

There are several examples of succesful Catholic Colleges in addition to 'Nova - Georgetown, Gonzaga, Xavier, Notre Dame and Marquette to name the ones ranked in he top 25. Come to think of it, Catholic colleges with succesful basketball programs are he norm, not the exception.
