The Tigers have been in contact recently with the agent for free-agent right-hander Derrick Turnbow, who notched 63 saves for Milwaukee in 2005-06. Turnbow, who turns 31 on Jan. 25, pitched in only eight games this year because of right shoulder trouble and wildness (13 walks in 6 1/3 innings). Agent Damon Lapa expects him to be healthy and throwing strikes by the start of training camp.

If I'm the Tigers, I seriously consider signing a bunch of these cheaper guys, close by comittee, someone will be a pleasant surprise.

He has to be cheap because he had one outstanding year followed by three horrible years.

Don't worry about it: his 'agent' expects him "to be healthy AND throwing strikes" by the start of training camp. Priceless.

Give him a Willis-like contract then!

then he could pitch in the Single A with him, atleast some team in the Tigers organization might get a Championship

the tigers are crazy. they already have a guy who throws hard, and is wild to close. (rodney) --then they trade a great looking prospect for another hard throwing pitcher who can't seem to find the plate.(jackson) now they want turnbow. ( who can't find the plate) what is dumbrowski drinking!!?
what ever happened to bringing up pitchers from AAA,
if there not ready, then why the hell are they in AAA. (i'll get sarcasm for that ) but they should be very close to being ready if their in AAA.

2009 will find the Tigers competing, but not good enough.

Competing in the sense that they'll play 162 baseball games, for sure. Competing in the sense that they'll finish in the top half of their division, not at all.

If you're trying to imply that the Indians are in as dire straits as the Tigers are, you're lost.

That was the shock of the year for me. I didn't blame them for taking a chance on him for one year especially as a part of getting Cabrera. I think Cabrera will have a Hall career regardless of his weight. That didn't excuse giving Willis that huge contract before he proved he could still pitch. What were they thinking?

Well, I suppose they knew that he'd suck, but figured that he'd fit right in with the rest of their pitching staff.

Come on, Nicky, tell me how that felt?

And BTW, the Tigers have three guys in their farm system who throw 100 mph. Scouting reports say "They have had some control issues." Imagine that.

Does that include Willis the $10+ mil veteran playing single a ball?
