A source confirmed Friday that Gary Patterson met with Auburn officials Thursday about the Tigers' head coaching vacancy, but the TCU football coach is still not commenting on the situation. Patterson did not return repeated phone calls Friday, but said through TCU media relations director Mark Cohen that he would not comment on anything because he's focused on this weekend, which includes his team's Poinsettia Bowl preparations with recruits attending practice. Patterson's agent, George Bass, also would not comment, referring any questions to his client.

Would be a good move for Patterson, who I would assume keep Auburn's tradition of running the ball very much alive.

You fire a coach with the knowledge that there is a better coach available. With that said, who is Auburn looking at that would truly be condidered better than Tubs? I think Patterson is a good coach, but I can't see how he could be considered better than Tubs. It may work out for the best but I am not getting Auburn and Tennessee.

Hellen from Keller - has Auburn contacted you about the opening?

December 13, 2008  03:47 PM ET

I think Auburn should be going for the Buffalo coach, Leach, or Boise State's coach

December 13, 2008  06:44 PM ET

supposedly Auburn hired some dude from Iowa St.

December 13, 2008  08:25 PM ET

Worse coaching search I have ever seen. Fire one of the top coaches the school has ever had to, get every coach who can spell their name rumored for the job and then hire a coach with a losing record. Recruiting in the entire south is picking up because of the rise of several teams who haven't been major players in a while. The 3 or 4 years Auburn loses because of a bad coach could keep them down for a long time and end up with Ole Miss replacing them in the SEC pecking order.

Haha, "Chizik hired as Auburn's next coach" is right next to "Patterson talking to Auburn."

And the next head coach at Iowa State will be laughing at Auburn for firing him too!

Hey, 5 and 19 is pretty good!!! Kind of reminds me of the Jets firing Pete Carroll to hire Rich Kotite.
