The top ninth-inning man left on the free-agent market told his hometown newspaper that he'd prefer to stay close to home. Outgoing Rockies closer Brian Fuentes said he sees "a great fit" with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in a Saturday report in the Merced Sun-Star. Fuentes was born and raised in Merced, Calif., which is due east of San Jose and about 300 miles from Angel Stadium.

Let's see if they will pay him what they weren't willing to pay Rodriguez.

Isn't that the truth !?!?!

He's getting up there in years-
he would be smart - career-wise -to go to a team like the
Angels who will be competing for a ring....
he isn't going to have another chance to be a closer after
this contract is over - when he'll be in his late 30's

hes not worth anywhere near k rod. plus they should just go with aradondo

December 14, 2008  11:06 AM ET

Fuentes would probably take a 2 year deal. Sounds like it could be a good fit.

Fuentes prefers Angels move...............to where?

I think he's only getting serious offers from one team - the Cardinals. We do need a closer and lefties in the bullpen. Mo will not be fooled into overbidding because Fuentes talks to the press with real or imagined preferences.

I actually think he would be a great move for the Dodgers since they released Saito. Broxton in the 8th, Fuentes in the 9th.

I agree with you, but if he's from Cali, he may want to go home. The Cardinals may lose out on this if Fuentes wants to pitch on the West Coast.

No one in California needs a closer except for the Angels. How long did Sabathia say he wanted to go to California? I never bought that story either. He knew where he was going. He just wanted to squeeze every dollar he could out of them.

Fuentes was watching that play out. Funny he just now remembered he wanted to sign in California.

I agree Arredondo is the next guy, spend some money on a decent starter. Don't give that job to Mosely he is better for long relief.

His Roid cycle is causing the Wrastler Man to lash-out a little more agressively lately. Please be patient with him.

You wish...where you are from....Kentucky?

2 years and $ 15 mil....anything more than that.....its not worth it. We are confident with Arredondo and Shields.......

I was not aware that Mosely was even being considered as a starter. Don't they still have Lackey, Weaver, Saunders, and Santana, with Escobar coming back off injury? And if Escobar isn't ready I would think that Nick Adenhart would be ahead of Mosely. As for the bullpen, don't forget about Justin Speier, too. He had a down year last year, but has quietly been a great setup man in the past.
