Taylor's future in Jacksonville uncertain

Running back Fred Taylor was brutally honest earlier this season when he called the Jaguars the worst team he's played on chemistry-wise, but that isn't affecting his desire to return next season. The 32-year-old Taylor is due to make $6 million in 2009, which he realizes the Jaguars are unlikely to pay. Taylor seems amenable to a pay cut, but the question will be if the sides can find a middle ground. "It is my plea, I don't want to go," said the 11-year Jaguar, who has been one of the NFL's underappreciated backs partially because he plays in a smaller media market. Taylor, who might require offseason thumb surgery and is now on injured reserve, said retirement is not an option.

I think Taylor not returning would be stupid. His comments were completely honest and not meant as a shot at all.....though I can certainly see how they could be misconstrued.

Well the Jags certainly went from the top of the hill to bottom feeders this year. Has to be something wrong with the team to do that.

taylors future in jacksonville is not uncertain, as a matter of fact its very certain...... certain that he will not be back! no way they bring him back, despite the injuries to the two linemen, he's clearly lost a step, he's 32 years old and is not gonna re-sign for peanuts! his comments clearly suggest that he "still has a lot to give" in his mind and he's not gonna render those services for nothing.

let him go, they have POCKET HERCULES and a host of other young guys so cut ur ties and move forward

I thought Jacksonville's future in Jacksonvilled was uncertain as well...

taylor is old now stick a fork in him hes done

Jacksonville looked like a Super Bowl team last year. What happened? Letting Taylor walk will give them money to fill a couple of holes.

December 14, 2008  01:44 PM ET

It should be left up to the new coach there to decide if he is worth the money.

It is time to move on without Fred Taylor in Jacksonville. The team cannot be doing this rollercoaster ride every year. Collier got shot many times - very, very tragic. The offensive line had injuries. BUT - these things happen to other teams and not necessarily the shooting of Collier. The injuries, the arrests for drugs, for drinking, etc..... Other teams - the really GOOD teams in the NFL.....DO NOT win 11 then only win 5 the next season. The Jaguars - in my individual opinion - need to spend some money - - - and I mean BIG MONEY on a superstar player.....a playmaking receiver. BUT the owner just wants to run the business and is satisfied with just "BEING THERE" and making the dough from owning a NFL team. We got rid of Leftwich who is a limp, a gimp. That was a good move. Garrard should of had the job when they let Brunnel walk away. Brunnel to Jimmy Smith on the fly route - was a really beautiful thing. Beauty in motion. Get rid of Fred Taylor - he did his job. He wants to carry a gun? The boogey man gonna get him. Boo-hoo. ALL of these players wanting to carry guns - WHY? You gonna where bling. You gonna get robbed. All you need is a debit card in life now. Right? Fred Taylor thinks he needs to carry a gun. Does not make sense. It is really retarded. Collier got shot because he beat the boy up in a prior encounter. He kicked the boys arsse and the kid put him in his place. It was a revenge thing. That is understandable. Fred Taylor wants to stay in Jacksonville....sure he wants to remain here and yet still....he will want the most money he can get out of the time.....out of the fan's pockets. I think he is a nice guy, but he does like to whine and almost beg for things to go his way when he talks to the press. He really kisses the people in the right spots when he thinks things will not go his way. He is sucking up - right now. AND THE GAMEPLANs that the Jaguars run are really predictable that it ALL NEEDS TO CHANGE. And the change will start by not resigning Fred Taylor. The Jags need change - they do not need to continue down the same road that is going NOWHERE.

taylor to denver

Between this and how bad things are getting in Washington about Clinton Portis and him possibly wanting out if Zorn stays next year, its looking like the Saints will actually have some options to pursue this offseason for a power running back besides going through the draft. I think Taylor would be a good pickup if they cant find a better option. I know he wouldnt be a long term fix and will probably only be effective for another 2 years maybe 3 max but the Saints need a vertern power back to compliment Bush.
The other guy i mentioned was Clinton Portis. If things keep going the way they have progressed the last couple weeks it looks like Portis could ask for a trade. Im thinkin if the Saints offer up somethin like P. Thomas (proving game by game that he is an every down back with receiving skills and is still very young) or Reggie Bush and either Will Smith or Charles Grant (2 good pash rushers who are in their prime age wise but have underperformed the last couple years) plus a draft pick or 2 (possibly a 1st rounder if need be to make Washington bite). Now i know at first...

December 15, 2008  01:48 AM ET

....your reaction might be - There is no way in hell the Redskins give up Portis for a package like that, if they somehow are willing to give him up at all. But if you really break it down i think that trade is equal value on both sides (if not a better deal for the Redskins). You get a young RB that can help ease the blow of losing Portis, a pass rusher with great ability in Smith or Grant (and paired up with Jason Taylor and some other players on that Redskins D will make him even better) , and either one or 2 draft picks.
And then you look at it from the other side - if the Saints pulled this off their offense would be complete. It would be the best offense in the history of the league. The ONLY thing its missing is a power back who can pick up short yard conversions, pick up blitzing LBs and Safties, and can still catch the ball out the backfield (and if you think Portis isnt that good at that just wait and see if he ever gets a QB like Brees, he finds the open guy wherever he is). I think the Saints should try every scenerio possible.

Can you say overrated? 2 good DBs & RBs, and one cokehead reciever! They overachieved last year, get over it!

HOW BOUT DEM COWBOYS!!! Bring on the birds (Buzzards & Pidgeons!)

There is something about teams in the south. Carolina is like that too, up and down. Dallas could do it all in one year.

Does the cost of a walker count against the salary cap? This guy has been a non-factor for a couple of years.

If they let him go they will be making a big mistake thats for sure
