Towers should ask a lot.... but if nobody is biting, obviously he has to modify his expectations.... and demanding players that were specifically noted as "off limits" is just stupid....

Exactly. But what people who do not live in the NYC Tri-State area media market may not realize is how far heads are up **** in this area as far as both writers and fans (of the Yankees, Mets, Giants, Jets, Knicks, Nets, etc.) truly are. It's an interesting ordeal being a fan of teams outside of the NYC market while being stuck living in it.

Kevin Towers has been fleecing other GMs and teams for years and had built a fine Padres roster in recent years (don't forget folks SD won the NL West in 2005 and 2006, and were a bad call at the plate away from winning it in 2007) with trades that benefitted SD and foiled the trade partner, i.e. Chris Young, Adrian Gonzalez from Texas. Now with the Padres' desperate/despicable scenario today, the jig is up. GMs will no longer be fooled by Towers. We'll be seeing Peavy going somewhere for nothing close to equal in return.
Too bad for all 10 us Padres fans. Especially ones like me in New Jersey.

Atlanta will probably still get him, if they want him. It would be hard for Peavy to go back to San Diego.

Towers and Alderson are idiots. They thought they were dealing from a position of leverage and were badly mistaken. Why? Because every GM in baseball knows they have to deal Peavy. They have to. The leverage to deal from a position of strength is with the other 29 teams. Towers wanted far to much for Peavy by constanly adding one player here and another there after the basic parameters were set. Plus all the media leaks upset the Braves and Cubs. The Pads have the worst front office leadership I have ever know of. They screwed Pads fans and themselves.

Six for one is the definition of too much. Insistently demanding that an untouchable player be included in the deal is the definition of too much. Towers has demanded too much from the Braves, and from us. I'm not surprised Hendry didn't bite; that deal would have been atrocious for us.

Not sure Towers is asking too much... I think it is Peavy limiting the Teams. The Angels and Yankees can make this happen in a heartbeat

This is a surprise? That Towers is an unrealistic unreasonable amateur? Haven't we been hearing about his lack of negotiation and communication skills for months now?

if yanks farm system wasn't already thin on top prospects they would have traded for peavy instead of high risk acquisition of aj 6-8 wks ago!!! no matter who towers is dealing with HE WILL GO AFTER the other teams top "can't touch"prospects plus waste everyone's time frame to get a reasonable done quickly!
