Asomugha lining up Raiders exit?

Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, perhaps the Raiders' top defender, has quietly terminated his relationship with his agent, Steve Baker, according to paperwork filed with the NFL Players Association. A league source indicated last week that Asomugha is now strongly considering super agent Tom Condon. What does it all mean? Asomugha is scheduled for unrestricted free agency after the season, but the Raiders might restrict him for the second year in a row with the franchise tag. If they do, Asomugha might be more inclined to hold out in hopes of leaving Oakland, where he's clearly tired of losing.

he's a stud and he certainly doesnt want to "waste away" in oakland!

Someone wants out of Oakland? Not News!

I grew up in the East Bay and I have to say I dont blame him one bit for wanting out. I would leave the Raiders too. The organization is NOT commited to winning, just drama and BS. He has too much talent and wants to win.

If I was in Oakland, I'd be trying to leave too. They're a mess.

best corner in the league should go somewhere else hopefully he doesnt get tagged two years in a row

December 14, 2008  11:00 AM ET

this is news to me, i only thought one could get tagged once.

Most places other than Oakland would be better for this guy!

Pats can really use him Hobbs and O'Neal sucks as CB. Pats backfield is wide open with them two out there. The only way this happen if Oakland don't tag him for next season. But I don't see him coming here might want a lot of money and Pats are know for not over spending but they might want to reconsider.

sucks when your only glimmer of hope leaves

Nnamdi definitely deserves better... He has been by far our best player for the last few years... And has never complained... On top of being a great player... He is a great person... Any other organization... Would be lucky to have him

Well put ICEnSoCal.

As a Raiders fan I would be gutted to see him leave but certainly woouldn't blame him. The Raiders are going nowhere till AD disappears, then it would still be 2-3 seasons to get this team back up to respectabilty.

Seattle Seahawks left tackle Walter Jones played under the franchise tag for three-year in a row.

A team is limited to one franchise tag per year. If they choose to tag the same player for consecutive years, they have to pay an additional premium.

But you would be correct if we were playing Madden.

STICK IT TO AL! BECOME A BRONCO! LIKE NEIL SMITH BEFORE YOU, WELCOME TO THE GOOD SIDE!!!

December 15, 2008  04:00 AM ET

Why isn't everyone there lining up for an exit?

Asomugha is a great player, and a very intelligent guy. I hope for his sake, he is able to go to another team and be part of some success. He is entering the prime age of his career, and I would hate for it to be wasted toiling in Oakland. But with the franchise tag, I'm not sure how he could escape this mess right now.
