Tiki to Eli: I was wrong

Tiki Barber admitted he was "wrong". Actually, he will be admitting it tonight in front of the nation, when NBC airs an interview that Barber did with Giants quarterback Eli Manning for the Football Night in America pre-game show that airs right before Giants-Cowboys. In a brief transcript, provided by NBC, Barber tells Manning he was wrong when he questioned the quarterback's leadership abilities during an NBC pre-game show on Aug. 19, 2007, before a Giants preseason game. Here's their exchange: Barber: "So before last season on NBC, I publicly questioned your early leadership. Now, clearly I was proven wrong. But what was your reaction when you heard?" Manning: "I obviously had to stand up for myself. I kind felt I was called out. So I had to come back and stand up for myself. I felt in that situation, I had to say something. Sometimes, you've got to go outside what's your norm and do something you feel strongly about. I've been through all sorts of things in New York City through the media. There's a time when you reach a certain point where you've got to stand up and fight back a little bit."

Very magnanimous of Eli. I would have thrown in "Oh yeah, by the way Tiki, these Superbowl rings are sooo heavy. Wanna try in on? Psych!!"

Eli is 26-5 in his last 31 starts! Say no more! Except if i were Eli i would have worn that ring and stuck it in Tiki,s face for the whole interview!

There is nothing to apologize for. Tiki wasn't wrong. It's a matter of timing.

Eli's leadership skills were absolutely questionable up until last year. Tiki Barber and Jeremy Shockey were mostly to blame. Their constant criticism kept Eli from gaining his confidence.

Ever since that Super Bowl win, Eli has been a completely different quarterback. He used to cower in the face of pass rush. I've never seen a QB duck his head and lob the ball up for grabs like Eli used to do. He's a changed man.

If Tiki is going to apologize for anything it should be holding Eli back.

I have to agree. He was correct at the time. Things change. It may have been the best thing that could have happened to Manning. He is a different QB now.

Well, he did lob that ball up in the air in the SB for the miracle catch. LOL!

His most famous pass, Tyree's miraculous catch, was lobbed-up for grabs. Eli benefits from a good offensive line, an even better defensive line, great RB depth, a myriad of WRs to throw to, a great defense, good coaching, etc... Seems to me that the Giants struggles last season had more to do with them underachieving than catching 'lightning in a bottle'. As evidenced by their season thus far, they're a great team. Not enough credit is given to Jerry Reese for putting that team together.

I wanted to see the Pats run the table last year just to shut the 72 Dolphins up. But if they had to lose it couldnt have happened for a more genuine person and better QB who has put up with a ginormous amount of BS on the biggest stage and market in pro sports. I would have loved to see Eli wear his bling and rub in Tiki's face...cuz if the tables were turned you darn well the big mouth Tiki wouldnt pass the chance by.

December 14, 2008  10:46 AM ET

its ok no ring for tiki

December 14, 2008  11:18 AM ET

I still don't think Eli is that much of a leader. I think that he went to Coughlin last year and voiced his frustration with Shockey and Coughlin took care of it.

I love Romo and people say he's not a leader and I tend to agree. Hell, could anyone keep our circus in line...But I digress...If we had a coach like Coughlin, tough and not afraid to bench a player, then we too, wouldn't need Romo to be a strong leader.

December 14, 2008  11:25 AM ET

Eli looks like a teenage chick talking on her cell phone in this photo, probably asking her BFF when she's goin' to the mall.

December 14, 2008  11:36 AM ET

Tiki made a valid point at the time, and Eli has taken his game to another level. Nice to see them acting like adults instead of being **** like the T.O.'s of the world.

It's about time Tiki apologized
He should have said something on the night of February 3rd, 2008, but better late than never.

Nah, Tiki was right. Eli is just riding on his team's back right now. He'll come back down to earth soon enough and go back to the old Eli.

I see a lot Eli hating going on
