Lofton warned Sabathia about Yankees, New York

Early in his career, Kenny Lofton hurt the Yankeesas an Indian when he batted .330 against them across his first four years in a Cleveland uniform. In the fall of 2007, he helped the Indians dismiss the Yankees from the first round of the AL playoffs - a loss that ended the Joe Torre Era - by hitting .375. In between, the well-traveled Lofton spent the 2004 season as a Yankee, batting .275 in 83 games and complaining about the way Torre used him. Lofton was out of the game last season, but recently he tried to hurt the Yankees again when he attempted to dissuade CC Sabathia from signing with the Bombers. "He painted a bad picture of New York and the Yankees," a person in the know said. "A lot of negative things." Lofton's words couldn't match the record-setting $161 million for seven years the Yankees offered the 28-year-old lefty, who played with Lofton in Cleveland in 2001 and 2007.

Just a boy who could run fast, A chump. And he could not handle the press? BFD. He was as good as the teams he played on....they made him play better. Sour-puss.

Talk about holding a grudge. Get over yourself Kenny. We all know that athletes will ultimately respond to $$, and not sniveling little dirty dirt bag stories. you DIRTY dirty dirt dirt bagger of a human. eat sand and like it. if you were at the beach, you would be the moist sand underneath my toes. go have unprotected sexual relations with an ostrich.

if he was offered a big contract he would be on the first bus back to NY

lofton is a straight up clown shoe. second only to ruben sierra's quote "the yankees only care about winning" .... ummmmm guilty.

December 15, 2008  08:17 AM ET

So what if he doesn't like the idea of playing for the Yankees? Neither does CC. The only dirtbag here is the anonymous source who would leak this to the press.

Lofton was a malcontent during his thankfully brief stay in New York. He needed his hand held, and when Torre wasn't willing to mollycoddle him, he pouted and sulked. Glad he's out of the game, and glad his bitter grudge didn't keep Sabathia from signing with the Yankees.

This is gonna be a train wreck of a season in New York. Just watch.

Maybe for the Mets. The Yanks - who aren't done shopping by the way, will win the division...

Lofton's been a malcontent everywhere he's been. The fans were never bad to him and Torre is no longer there. What exactly is the issue, not being fondly remembered for being on a team that blew a 3-0 lead to the Sox?
Shaddup! Sitdown! ******

He looks like he's doing the lindy in this picture. He should be doing that in front of a liquor store wearing an old tattered suit as I throw change at him so he can get a 40 OZ St Ides. Or preferably 2 22 OZ ones, they stay cold longer.

ummmmmmmmmmm.............ok whatever this story is trying to say. Just a sore puss crying about someone making more then he ever did.

That looks like Michael Strahan and Joe Girardi.
You're not a well man.

Kenny was a decent 5 tool guy but he wasn't stellar enough to get the run he wanted with the log jam the Yanks had in 2004. I understand the hard feelings but get over it already. Torre isn't even there anymore. Get the money CC!

The plan that year was to start Lofton, spell him with Bernie or sit him against a tough lefty, have Bernie DH and Giambi play first. Then the Giambi issues began and they realized he couldn't play 1st base on a day in day out basis. He needs to get over it.

It seems like everyone who goes to the Yankees lose their soul.

loftons a punk

Of course the Yankees are run by bad people. CC Sabathia is going to find out pretty soon what they are all about. Girardi is a nut case who expects perfection every time they play and can't handle loss. The owners are going to be on CC case if he doesn't perform well too. Mark my words. CC will be glad when his three years time is up. He is going to regret not listening to Lofton.
