Mets crying Wolf?

Finding another starting pitcher is the Mets' priority for the rest of the winter, according to what the team has told several baseball people. The Mets are interested in re-signing Oliver Perez, something GM Omar Minaya has said is "50-50." Lefty Randy Wolf, who has a career mark of 11-5 with a 3.34 ERA in 28 starts against the Mets, is another strong possibility. Wolf is likely to sign faster than Perez, which would solve the Mets' rotation riddle sooner. The Mets like Derek Lowe but he's a less likely alternative because, as Minaya acknowledged last week, his price tag (perhaps as much as $15 million per) is too high. Jon Niese looms as a likely rotation candidate, joining Johan Santana, John Maine and Mike Pelfrey and whoever else is acquired this winter.

I think I would prefer Perez only because he is a known commodity but Randy Wolf intrigues me as a #4 pitcher. I think if he can stay healthy can put up big numbers with the Mets because he would be going up against very mediocre #4 pitchers on other teams with Putz and K-Rod to close.

This would be a wise choice for the Mets. As a Padres fan, I was sad to see him go (along with the rest of the Padres roster)
