Maclin won't confirm entering draft
While it's become something of a foregone conclusion that Missouri sophomore receiver Jeremy Maclin will leave for the NFL after this season, Maclin told the Post-Dispatch on Saturday that wasn't necessarily so and that his decision will be predicated on more than just whether he would be a first-round pick ??? which previously has been reported as being his criteria. Asked if the Dec. 29 meeting with Northwestern in the Alamo Bowl would be his last game as a Tiger, the Kirkwood High product said, "I don't know" and added that he wanted to "chill a little bit" before determining his future. As for the premise that he would leave if projected as a first-round pick, Maclin said, "There's a lot more you've got to factor into it." Maclin said part of the process would entail speaking at length with coach Gary Pinkel, receivers coach Andy Hill and new offensive coordinator David Yost.

They will all go with the NFL talking so much about a rookie salary cap in 2010. Why wouldn't they go get paid.

Hate to say it, but the Mizzou ship is sinking faster than it rose. If I'm not mistaken, they lost their offensive coordinator to a head coaching gig. Hope they kept tape of highlights from the 2007 season.

D. SLIQ you obviously don't know anything about the Tigers... Their recruiting classes from the last 2 years have been the best they ever had, Blaine Gabbert was a 5 star recruit at quarterback and has the same arm as Chase and way better size... So instead of talking about a team you know nothing about why don't you go find something to talk about that you are more informed on... Maybe Rocky Mounts High School teams... Bye the way have you heard about a guy named Sheldon Richardson which is another 5 star athlete committed to Missouri at DT this year... Ya didn't think so but thanks for playin...

We'll see, Gladiator. Gabbert hasn't had nearly the experience that Daniel had, when they got him into nearly every game in 2006. And Richardson's still a "soft" recruit, which worries me a little bit. Next year's gonna separate the real fans from the bandwagon fans. I think we'll still be competitive, but losing Daniel, Moore, probably Maclin, Wolfert (don't underestimate how important his accuracy's been) and the rest of the seniors is gonna be tough to overcome. We still have some pretty solid recruits, and Washington's a beast. I see them going maybe 7-5 or 8-4 next year.

I'm just saying I'm tired of hearing that Mizzou's headed back to losing just cuz of graduation... I really don't think so and I think Coach Yost taking over as Offensive Coordinator is a good move and I thinkt the fall off will be minimal...

LOL. I knew about two of your 5-star commits. The ones you mentioned. But recruiting services don't make a season. Ask Notre Dame. The reason I'm doubting Mizzou is because this was supposed to be their year and they wasted it because of their lofty expectations. Even Chase Daniel was talking about national championship and they lose to mediocre-at-best Kansas. They got embarrassed on national television for the second time in the Big 12 title game. I thought Mizzou had a great shot this year, but their head got too big from last year's success. The main reason for my doubts, though, is the loss of your OC. Your offense was your only chance this year. Hopefully the new OC won't be too much of a drop-off. I like Maclin and Coffman but Chase needs to stop believing his arm is a rocket because it cost him some INTs late in the season.

I think Rocky Mount has 2, maybe 3 HS lol. But no, I'm from Texas and keep up with Texas HS playoffs. Missouri knows something about Texas high schools. They've been recruiting down here lately. Almost half your depth chart is from Texas.

I recall hearing the same song 3 years ago when Brad Smith graduated. J-Mac will probably do what's best for him and take the contract that goes with a first round pick, the Chases will graduate (Daniel, Coffman and Patton). Blaine Gabbert doesn't look much different than Daniel did 3 years ago and no one knows who will be his receivers, who will replace all the linebackers and a couple of the D linemen. We didn't have any faith in Gary Pinkel's "system" but we just finished the best 2 year run in Mizzou history. You would be a fool to assume that we will return to 4 - 8 seasons. Next year will be interesting.... but first let's prove something by beating Northwestern by 30.

Would rather have Crabtree, but either one could start for the Bears right now.

No question there will be a dropoff next year, but I don't think "the ship is sinking" too fast. The program is much better than it was before Chase Daniel arrived. Mizzou can still compete at the top of the Big 12 North. Maybe the expections were a little too high this year. But the last 2 recruiting classes have been solid. And Gabbert will have to earn the starting spot, so the spring competition should be great for his development (incoming freshmen Blaine Dalton and Ashton Glaser will get plenty of reps in addition to walk-on Jimmy Costello, who is said to be going on scholarship soon).
The biggest concern, other than the defense of course, will be the WR unit. Is there a legitimate #1 receiving threat? Will Denario Alexander be healthy? It concerns me that other than Coffman, Maclin, and Saunders there were no WRs that had the ability to consistenly get open and create separation from the defense. When the top 3 pass catches were not open or on the field, Daniel had to make some very difficult throws in order to move the chains. Safe to say that William Franklin and Martin Rucker were definitely missed this year. That said, there are a handful of young and unkown receivers that could emerge alongside Jared Perry and a healthy (hopefully) D. Alexander.
Kansas and Nebraska will be the favorites for the Big 12 North going into the 2009 season, but don't count Mizzou out just yet. And who knows, maybe Mr. Maclin isn't ready to leave Mizzou behind....

He's good enough to make an impact in any NFL team. The guy has enough talent and shows that he's ready to learn the ins and outs of the pros.
Also, I've heard about his story growing up and he deserves to make an impact with his family as well.

Yeah, he will probably go pro. It would be a huge surprise if he opts for one more year of school when he has a good shot to be the 2nd receiver drafted this year.

don't count on sheldon becoming a Tiger until it is official. I hope he follows through on his verbal, but he is still taking visits to other schools.
