Why Mets are unlikely to sign Manny

The Mets seem unlikely to add a premium position player such as Manny Ramirez, though it's foolhardy to count out a New York team until Ramirez signs elsewhere. Omar Minaya has tried to trade for Ramirez twice before, but has been saying that the Mets probably won't be involved with the slugging free agent this winter, in part because they'd like their payroll to stay around the $143 million it was last year. Privately, the Mets believe they scored enough runs last season (799, tied for second in the NL with the Phillies). Unless they can pull off an unlikely trade of Luis Castillo and add free agent Orlando Hudson to play second base, the likely move is to add a backup infielder such as Alex Cora.

The Mets need pitching more than offense. Great job stating the obvious.

Castillo is practically untradable. Another overly generous contract to a latino player by Omar. There will be churches and hospitals all over Latin America by the time he retires.

Karma is a MF huh! Manny is probably the best pure hitter in the game and he cant get a contract offer. WHy? Because that is what happens when you QUIT on your team and thats what he did to the Red Sox who paid him well. When he strolled down the first baseline during a no hitter he sealed his fate as a selfish ****hole. I hope he doesnt get more than a year at a time offer, NOone trusts him anymore over a long period. What goes around comes around!

Cause their problem was never really power (Wright, Delgado, Beltran)... their pitching staff blew

December 15, 2008  12:11 PM ET

And Manny doesn't run.

Well said. he's a disgrace. He also decided he was hurt in games against power pitchers.
He's a punk.

So, what your saying is that there was another reason they didn't sign Manny, other than him being a dooshbag?

This just in Manny is probably not signing with the Florida Marlins.
Is it really a rumor reporting that a team probably won't sign a certain player?
