Kiffin raiding Raiders staff

Interim Raiders coach Tom Cable lashed out at assistant offensive line coach James Cregg on Monday for leaving with two games left in the season and joining former coach Lane Kiffin's staff at Tennessee. Cregg told Cable of his decision to depart the Raiders on Sunday night, telling him he was taking a job with the Volunteers. "Quite frankly, I'm disappointed by all these things, mostly by the fact that someone would quit on this organization, this football team and this head coach at this juncture," Cable said Monday. "It's wrong." It's the latest strike in the feud between Kiffin and Raiders owner Al Davis, which started a year ago when Kiffin wanted to interview for the head coaching job at Arkansas before finishing his first season in Oakland.

Looks to me like the organization has already quit on itself.

Nothing wrong with heading to the lifeboat when the ship is sinking.

Aren't the Rats the first ones off the ship?

Oh come on Cable, shouldn't you be focusing on your teams new NFL record of six consecutive seasons with 11 or more loses? The entire coaching staff could walk out today and this sad sack organization will attain the same result as if you were there..........3 - 13. Just lose baby.

well he was an offensive line coach and from what ive seen from the raiders the line wasnt very good so what exactly are u griping about?

December 16, 2008  08:15 AM ET

Sorry but didn't the Raiders fire Kiffin during the season? Maybe the coaches see the writing on the wall.

The Rat is clearly the owner of the Raiders.

December 16, 2008  09:07 AM ET

I'm surprised that the Raiders wanted to keep their offensive line coach

December 16, 2008  09:45 AM ET

Don't worry about the Raiders staff, Coach Cable. You probably won't be there next year either.

December 16, 2008  09:50 AM ET

I'd be careful, because the Raiders' staff hasn't exactly done great this year.

December 16, 2008  10:08 AM ET

Man... We just plain suck... Not like thats a Newsflash or anything... When will the pain end???... Someone throw me a rope

December 16, 2008  10:21 AM ET

Kiffin hired those guys in the first place, and the Raiders ae going nowhere...again. Should they wait until they are put out to the pasture? No, they should jump on their next opportunity while they can.

December 16, 2008  10:39 AM ET

Really, if you had the chance to get away from Al Davis, wouldn't you?!

Yes, definitely.

December 16, 2008  11:53 AM ET

Oh come on - Cable is out of his mind. Any decent coach would do almost anything to get out of Oakland. His protestations ring shallow - just because he wants to kiss Al Davis's **** doesn't mean he should expect anybody else to.

December 16, 2008  12:13 PM ET

As long as owners let coaches go mid season and mid contract and turn out their staff, then they can expect nothing different in return..
maybe he is just ticked that Kiffin did not offer him a position and he knows he is on the way out too?

December 16, 2008  12:34 PM ET

Cable was probably one of the assistant coaches stabbing Kiffin in the back so as they say; what goes around comes around. Besides, in order to coach an offensive line you have to HAVE an offensive line.

Why should anyone stay loyal to Davis, the team or players when none of them are loyal in return. I wish Kiffin nothing but success down in Tenn. and hope he wins a national title.
