East Carolina athletics director Terry Holland said Monday that coach Skip Holtz, who recently was courted by Syracuse, did not ask the school to change his contract again or to make a counter offer. East Carolina had rewarded Holtz in September with a revised contract that could pay him $9.4million with bonuses through 2013. Honored Monday as Conference USA Coach of the Year by The Sporting News Magazine, Holtz announced Friday he had turned down the Syracuse job.

im a fan of skip holtz, good for him for staying on and seeing this thing thru...no need going to 'cuse wait for a better job if u decide to leave before 2013

I heard he turned down Syracuse because he thought he had a really good shot at Auburn. Of course, he didn't realize the patients are running the asylum at Auburn.

Consistent success at ECU will garner a better job opportunity than Syracuse

It was LOU that asked for the raise on Skip's behalf...

Yeah I saw that too and just laughed. ESPN made it sound like breaking news. It wasn't. It was just his Pops telling the truth.

I understand that Skips In-Laws live in Ames, Iowa (Iowa State). With that job now open do you think he would be interested in going to the Big 12?

I cannot believe Lou gets paid to do motivational speaking. He pulls down some bucks too. I was at one a few years ago and he did effin' card tricks.

Yeah his "speeches" on ESPN make me laugh. I'm not sure if he is intentionally trying to be funny.

I would think so. Iowa State isn't a plumb job but if he was willing to go to Syracuse, then I guess any BCS school will do for Skip.

Not if he is smart.

Holtz is a good guy. If he does good again with East Carolina next year he should start to see some REAL job offers.

syracuse at least has some tradition, and you wouldnt have to live in corn country. I dont think cuse is as bad of a job as everyone is making it out to be. they are down right now but i think there are alot of coaches out there that could bring them back very quickly.

I know. I'm from the State and used to see a lot of Syracuse on ABC and the old Channel 9 ( i forget the station's call name). I was just showing my frustration with the Cuse on that comment.

while he may not have asked for one, im pretty sure its a given he wanted one in order to stay...

Glad he didn't leave, bc i really dont understand why you would spend all that time building up a team then leaving when its on the brink of becoming a contender.
