Jacobs' return in question

Brandon Jacobs was hopeful that a week of rest would get his battered left knee ready for the stretch run of the season. But at the moment, his status is as unclear as it was last week. Tom Coughlin was noncommittal today when he was asked if Jacobs -- who missed the Giants' loss in Dallas with a left knee injury -- would practice on Wednesday when the Giants get back to work and start preparing for their showdown with the Carolina Panthers.

Now that Plaxico Burress and Brandon Jacobs are out... that Giants offense is far from intimidating.

The Carolina Panthers can take the number one seed this week. They aren't scared of Bradshaw and Ward because those guys haven't been carrying the load without Jacobs.

If Carolina wraps up the number one seed in the NFC, look the heck out. They have proven to be unbeatable at home this year.

Wind and Fire won' t be the same without Earth

No way the Giants lose trhis week, with or without Jacobs. They play a lot better with a chip on their shoulder and that chip should be a boulder now after losing 2 straight. Giants win at home.

Its all over for the Giants! They wont win another game this year! They'll lose to the Panthers and Vikings and get knocked out in the 1st playoff game!

December 16, 2008  08:24 AM ET

That ought to get them going!

No reponse? Gint fans must all be sleeping late. Or maybe they all see the light and agree with me. Ha!

December 16, 2008  09:12 AM ET

I say Jacobs should take another week off. I might be biased in that theory but hey it's how I feel :)

Actually, they have jobs and work. And you spelled response wrong. I might be crazy but I don't really want my Giants to have home field advantage. They might very well lose the final 2 games. Better now than the playoffs.

Seriously, they should rest him. I wouldn't want to play him if he's not 100%. I mean remember that former RB Willie Parker...

WHAT??! He still plays??

December 16, 2008  09:51 AM ET

The NFC is wide open. All six teams that get in the playoffs will be candidates for the Super Bowl. The Giants looked like the team to beat, but they've stumbled. Even the top couple of teams that fail to make the playoffs will be tough teams. It comes down to who's hot at the right time...kind of like the Giants last year.

This has got to be the best year of football for the fans. So many close races in the run for the playoffs. Man, I love this game.

December 16, 2008  10:46 AM ET

Panthers win big, 28-9.

I would rather be healthy for the play offs than to have home field through out...If not playing him gets him better, then sit him..Same for McKenzie , Robbins, Hixon, and anybody else that is hurt...Home field does not mean much if you show up with half your guys...

December 16, 2008  12:42 PM ET

save him for the playoffs, nothing to gain if jacobs is unavailable for that stretch run

Hmmm, sorry to break this to you, but if the hated divison rival Cowboys didnt bring out the chip on the shoulder mentality then the Panthers wont. The G-men are going in the oppisite direction this Decemeber...great story last year but not this season.

That's true. Last year the Giants won three road playoff games. Dropping to a #2 seed shouldn't hurt them in their healthy.

I'm sorry to break this to you, but the 'boys were much more motivated to win, seeing as a loss would mean they don't make the playoffs. And Jacobs and Burress were out.

Jacobs is just like Shaquille O'Neal. Absolutely no talent, he's just bigger than everyone else. He's injury prone and, frankly, a p*ssy. He's always getting hurt, even though he's usually got 30 to 40 pounds on the defender. I'm always happy to play against him because I always know he's just one hit away from going down for several weeks. Happens every year.
