Vikings likely to start Jackson

Vikings coach Brad Childress isn't ready to announce a starter just yet, but at this point it's clear that Tarvaris Jackson is headed toward another start Sunday against Atlanta. Jackson hasn't done anything to lose the job after throwing for a career-high four touchdowns at Arizona. Gus Frerotte hasn't recovered fully from a lower-back injury, and given Jackson's performance the past two weeks, there's no reason to make a switch at this point. Childress likes what he has seen from Jackson. Jackson's improvement might be a combination of more practice time, watching Frerotte play during games the past three months or just the extra motivation from being pulled from the starting lineup after the first two games of the season.

as i said in another tjack post, u have to go with him right now. even before frerotte went down he was playing poorly. vikes fans saying that tjack hasnt had a 200 yard game yet, WHO CARES?! frerottes' average passing yards this year is like 179 and he has more picks than tds. hey childress and vikes fans rooting for frerotte, there's a reason he's been a career backup. either way it goes this year the vikes will be awfully agressive this off season thru free agency or the draft depending on who's available before they squander the best back in the leagues talent and having one of the better d's in the league

He's had more motivation because now he has to go out there and prove he's the guy... If he keeps this up, then he'll stay on that field for the rest of the season. Don't slack off Jack!!!

No brainer. Although he won games, Frerotte is a decent veteran backup (he was going to retire last year) and he has been TERRIBLE lately (going back to the GB game). 12TDs and 15INTs on the season. With his back hurt, he'll be even more statue-esque back there... if thats even possible. TJ is the lesser of two evils.

It also helps that Peterson and Taylor have had two outstanding performances on the ground but Jackson has really shown great poise and put some amazing touch on his passes. He's made some great decisions. The upcoming Falcons game will test him but it will be interesting to see what he can do.

Well,
I am interested in seeing the kid play b/c last time I saw him on the field he stunk it up! If he turned it around that is great. I feel that Quinn benefitted from his year on the bench before he entered the NFL playing field vice the college arena.....

If T-Jack does finish the season well, that will be one less concern for the Vikings going into the offseason.

Didn't T-Jack go to Alabama State?

December 17, 2008  04:30 PM ET

John Abraham will let the vikes know if he is ready!

T-JACK!!!

Yes. He started his college career at Arkansas and transfered because he came in with Matt Jones. When Matt Jones won the job, he left so he could play.

And it would hard to justify benching him after being named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week in favor of a guy who has played like garbage.

T-Jack......no brainer.......its all about moblilty and holding onto the ball.........pound AP and Chester...and we be ok

December 18, 2008  10:40 AM ET

He's earned the right to start this week

December 18, 2008  10:54 AM ET

jackson has thrown 27 passes in two games completing 19. wow, 9 and 1/2 completions per game.hell, try throwing about 35 passes against the falcons, which is more like the average and let's really see what jackson can do before we make the season ending mistake of calling him a starter. any QB can throw 15 short passes a game and look great

Wildcat FTW... Tavaris doesnt seem to be able to get into "dont lose the game" mode.
