Who's calling plays in Dallas?

Wade Phillips surprised many last week when he announced that he has been calling all the plays since the Tampa Bay game. The Cowboys have played lights-out defense ever since, so the natural assumption was that the Cowboys are playing better primarily because Phillips got involved. Well, several Cowboys players have gone out of their way in the last week to let it be known that not much has changed with the play-calling from earlier in the season and that defensive coordinator Brian Stewart is still an active defensive play-caller. Everybody's saying, "Wade calls the plays, Stew calls the plays, but the whole season both of the guys have been calling plays the whole time," linebacker DeMarcus Ware said. Cornerback Terence Newman said nothing has changed as far as he is concerned with the play-calling. In fact, he said Stewart does more than people think and doesn't get nearly the credit that he deserves.

I'm sure there is some truth to both sides of this story. Why wouldn't both put their input into calling plays. As usually this is non story.

Wade phillips is going straight up disco fever in that photo

That's because the secondary is actually tightening up their defense. Not much holes lately and if there were some Stewart or Wade knows right away to tighten it up.

Morning. As far as the media and the Cowboys, it's what the NFL wants I think. Certain teams need to be good and need to be talked about. Lakers, Celts, Yankees, Red Sox, Cowboys, Cubs, etc. It's good for the sport.

I can see it from that angle but it sure gets old.

No offense to anybody's team, but the Panthers and Titans are 2 of the top 5 teams, I'm sure people would agree. And they get almost no press. And did the Panthers even get a Pro Bowl player? But yet, the ESPN has a tracker at the bottom line telling how many passes were thrown to T.O. and Witten during the game? You're right, it does get old.

why is this rag from Ft Worth so hard on the boys ... I mean, really ... every story from good ole Clarance is full of garbage more worthy of the National Enquirer than a legitimate newspaper ...

December 17, 2008  09:31 AM ET

and why isn't there a thread on here about the pro-bowl selections ... the Titan's Cris Hope was flat going to town about the selection process ...

exactly, the corners are pressing the receivers now instead of giving them a 10-15 yard cushion....and a guaranteed first down on every 3rd down.

Because we need stories about Joe Horn and T.O's b-day party.
