Red Sox think they're leading Teixeira race

One of the general managers involved in the Mark Teixeira negotiations was asked last night, "Are you still in it?" He answered, "I honestly don't know." Evidently, Teixeira's final landing spot has become a mystery to some of the people involved. The talks between Scott Boras and five teams were fluid. Complicating matters yesterday was that Boras, according to the Globe's Adam Kilgore, was traveling. Where? Great question. Two GMs who were involved in the Teixeira talks both felt the Red Sox had a leg up. "They have the highest offer on the table," said one of the GMs. One of the GMs responded to Red Sox owner John Henry's comment to the Boston Herald that the Sox would not go 10 years on any player with, "No one's going there [10 years]." The Yankees were willing to go two more years than anyone else on CC Sabathia, so why not on Teixeira? One of the GMs concluded the Yankees were the fly in the ointment, but "Manny [Ramirez is] going to the Yankees."

Yeah right. What next? The Sox GM sneaking past reporters in a gorilla suit! As if ...

go get teix!

I love how they can take some comment from someone they won't identify and label it as fact, Boras is playing all the bids against one another so until they get it down to 2 teams no one is really in the lead yet.

Oh and I could care less how one of the GM's "felt" give me the straight up facts nothing else. Speculation isn't news.

December 18, 2008  07:22 AM ET

But the Globe specializes in "News". Ah.. Would be good if they were actually ready to land him, but I agree that this is on the Rumors sode of T&R.

I'm not sure why you would come to T&R if you want hard news. SI posts these topics whether they are true or not. This particular one was lifted from Pravda (Boston Globe) A good topic might go 8-10 pages before it turns into a Yankee thread. The bad/old topics only take 2 or 3 pages.

May the Sox crash and burn

If Tex goes to the Sox, the Yanks go after Ramirez with everything they've got. Especially since the trade for Cameron seems dead.

But I don't get the assumption that the Yanks would go with Damon instead of Cabrera in center. Neither one's a prize, but I like Melky's glove better than Johnny's.

I think Damon's glove is better than Melky's, it's his arm that would need a cut off man at a Little league park.

Why can't you play nice? How would you like it if I said; "I hope Peter Angelos owns the Orioles forever"?

yes Johnny is a good guy and a hard worker, but he throws like a girl...

Oh yes, we got our power back on Monday afternoon. So many still without though ... I feel so bad for them all.

Glad to hear it. I feel bad also.
I "almost" feel guilty that I never really lost mine. I don't know what it is about my location, but I've been living here for 22 years and I've probably been without power for a grand total of 3 or 4 hours in all that time.

That's just cruel. But muck Cameron anyway. Let Cabrera and Gardener duke it out for center.

I didn't say I wanted hard news but how another GM "feels" is hardly a rumor. I have a feeling Tex will sign with the Angels doesn't make it a bonafide rumor does it?

Rex. Look at all 12 of Art Model's comments. Every single one is a put down of another team. I think that red bird should be green.

Agreed, I've never seen a post from this guy before. I'll be nice no matter what. I'm a Red Sox fan first and foremost, but I've always liked the Orioles. Hell, my second sons name is "Brooks".

I'd like to see that as well AF, but it does seem to point that way. yeah Tex to the Angels and Manny to the yanks. OK it's settled...

Yup! On T & R, anything qualifies.

I hope you are right. I like that much better. The only thing the Angels need to do is offer 10 years and that would seal the deal. Problem is I don't know if they are willing to go that far.
