Holmgren, Seattle president don't always agree

Tim Ruskell and Mike Holmgren never chose each other. It was an arranged marriage from the very beginning. Holmgren had been on the job six years with three playoff appearances when Ruskell arrived in 2005 as the poobah of all things football, an office Holmgren once held in Seattle. For the first year, the match was perfect. Super, in fact. Holmgren's offense peaked with a franchise scoring record, and Ruskell's knack for finding undersized overachievers resuscitated the defense that had once dragged behind the franchise like an anchor. And for the past three years, the two men have made the relationship work. They talk. Quite frequently in fact. After practice, after games and on Monday afternoons to discuss personnel. But as the end of an icon approaches here in Seattle, the relationship between the coach and president has become an elephant sitting in the Seahawks' living room. Everyone sees it, but people wait until Holmgren and Ruskell leave the room to start talking about it. This season, Holmgren has told reporters it wasn't his decision to let Ken Hamlin leave. Or Jerramy Stevens. Or to cut Shaun Alexander. Some take each mention as a point in the direction of Ruskell, the man who did make those choices. Others have pointed to Holmgren's exit and wondered just how much Ruskell wanted him to stay. It's now Ruskell who holds that position in Seattle, and they don't always see eye to eye, and that's not just because Holmgren is 6 feet 5. "We agree to disagree sometimes," Holmgren conceded last January.

Holmgren is one of the class acts of the NFL. It is good he is getting out of there. One year from now he will be back somewhere and they will be the better team for it.....

Guess who will win this one...............

Based on their performances elsewhere, it seems like Ruskell made the right choices, particularly in the case of Alexander and Stevens.
As for Holmgren, I'm not sure I'd call him a "class act" anymore. Getting a bit tired of all the excuses coming from him.

Holmgren has taken this franchise and turned them into a great team, taken them farther than any in team history. But all things need to end, its time for a new direction. Im not convinced Mora is the right choice but it is a new beginning.
I think Holmgren will end up down in SF where his career started coaching bay area HS Football. Good luck to him.

Ruskell needs to leave, that man is worthless! "i care more about them working hard and going to church than i do talent and ability!" thats basically the scenerio he brings to the table! maybe a little over exagerated, but still. THis year well have top 6 draft pick unless the Hawks pull in M's and win out and loose the seat! I bet you money he will take the draft pick draft a 5'9" 275 lb DT because hes a good guy and gives it his all! why draft Crabtree who will be a star, and give Hasselbeck a much needed receiver thats actually over 6'1"?? Im tired of this guy he drafted Lofa and Carlson which are awesome, but everyone else hes drafted??? worthless! midget DB's small and worthless DE's! i hate him.. in a dream world fire **** Ruskell have homlgren be the GM since thats what he wants anyways!

Take a pill and shut up. Wow what a **** fest.

Always something to complain about and as a fact most successful teams focus on character.

Not quite sure why you seem to hold him in such high regard. He built his rep in GB with a stacked team. And it was really a out of the blue performance by Desmond Howard that won that one. Couldn't repeat with same stacked team.

Goes to Seattle which is in a very weak division so they become a perennial playoff team. But even when he got to the Super Bowl in an "NFC off year" he ends up losing in one of the worst Super Bowls I can recall to a "weakish" Steelers team.

What he has been good for is giving me and a good friend a reason to start a "stroke pool". Because he's seemed about a hair away from several major ones over the years.

Of course they don't always agree, hence Holmgren packing his bags in 2 weeks.

ALWAYS SOMETHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT?!?!?! how the he** can you say that?? character is important, but so is skill! you cant draft all these tiny **** people and think that they can compete with big receivers/OL men! you my friend are an idiot! Just because they have good character doesnt mean theyre good football players.. hence our DB's! You probably just got all mad because i mentioned church! and you with your bible in hand and Bush 04 sticker.

The Seahawks use to be the door mat of the AFC west, never were in contention. New Division and Conference, New ownership, new stadium and coaching. Holmgren coached them to the Superbowl and set a new standard of winning in Seattle. Once a team wins it believes it can year in and year out. They were crippled by age and injuries this year. With the right moves in the off season there is no reason why they cant be back on top of the NFC West next season.
And who's to say that Holmgren wont be the GM in the near future.

Anyone who doesn't think Holmgren has done well in his ten years in Seattle is either A- Not from Seattle, B- Not a real Seahawks fan, C- A daft tw@t. I would bet most of the anti-Holmgren people would fall under "C."
