Why Miami suspended Marve

He missed the first game of the season, and now he'll miss the last. University of Miami quarterback Robert Marve was suspended Thursday for next week's Emerald Bowl ''for a violation of team rules,'' UM coach Randy Shannon said. Freshman backup Jacory Harris will start Dec. 27 against California at AT&T Park in San Francisco. Marve's father, Eugene, told The Miami Herald earlier Thursday afternoon that his son's suspension was based on a team rule that makes a player ineligible if he misses four or more classes. When asked if his son had left for good and was transferring, Eugene Marve said, ``No. He hasn't left for good. He's coming back to Miami.'' Marve said the suspension stemmed from his son being late to a class because he was talking to another teacher.

OK, which is it - did he miss 4 classes, or was he late 4 times because he was "talking to another teacher"?

Yeah a player gets suspended for missing some classes woooooo... Big deal.

This is actually exciting to me as a Canes fan. Get to see what Jacory brings to the table for four quarters.

harris should bring about 12/17 165 2/0, and let the ground game handle the rest, with the d and the fact that Cal is a bust I see the canes by around 17, after all Cal lost to Maryland, the only thing keeping them in it is that campus is 20 minutes away.

and if not Shannon's gonna need a cool zone to keep that heat off.

I'm glad he didn't go to Alabama. He seems like a trouble maker.

That's right, didn't he half-arse commit to Shula?

Something like that. Right about the time Coach Saban was coming in. Marve decided to "shop around" and we decided we weren't interested. So, it was kind of a mutual thing, but we almost ended up with him.

Viewing the situation now, I don't think it would have been good.

dont blame Marve for not looking like a superstar - hes got progessively WORSE over the season thanks to Patrick "CANT MOVE THE STICKS" Nix and his god awful coaching..

from what i've read on canes msg boards, he missed 3 and was 15 minutes late to the 4th (after they already took attendance or what not), so that got him suspended..

in one way its pretty weak because he was talking to another teacher (supposedly confirmed), but in another way im soooooo happy that harris finally gets to start and play a whole game (not against some chumps like in the first game of the season).. Marve probably just lost his starting job for next year too..

December 19, 2008  01:27 PM ET

Well, there's an easy way to avoid getting that fourth hit if you're late. Just don't miss the first three. I got my arse out of bed every morning in college.

No, it's the idea that players from "The U" think they above the rules and they can do whatever they want

This is true of athletes in general. From High school to college to professional sports, they learn that they WILL be treated differently. Hence, egotistical spoiled brats permeate sports at all levels. TO, Burress, V. Young, OJ, just to name recent headline grabbers. It doesn't help that they are generally not the brightest individuals to begin with.

Your generalization of athlete's shows that you are not the brightest individual to begin with...for every athlete that misses a class or does drugs, etc. I can show you a higher percentage of non-athlete on college campuses that do the same or worse. The percentage of athlete breaking the law is a lot less than the "general" population...but you have to do more than read ESPN to know that. But, you being such a bright person, I am sure you already knew that!!!!
