Theus interested in Arizona job

Reggie Theus said he "obviously" would be interested in the head men's basketball coaching job at the University of Arizona. Theus said he was looking forward to "my next head coaching job, whether it be in the NBA or college" after being fired earlier this week after one-plus seasons as the Sacramento Kings head coach. The Kings were 6-18 at the time. Before taking the Sacramento Kings job in June 2007, Theus revitalized the New Mexico State basketball program, guiding it to the 2006 NCAA tournament for the first time since 1999 with a 25-9 record.

Right. Hard to see Reggie as UofA's 1st choice

December 19, 2008  09:10 AM ET

Reggie's never been short on confidence has he?

December 19, 2008  09:20 AM ET

I just hope they don't come after Bruce Pearl.

December 19, 2008  10:19 AM ET

Or Earl Bruce...cwutididther?

December 19, 2008  10:22 AM ET

I???d much rather just accelerate the timing on Josh Pastner than give Theus a chance to make Tucson his next stepping stone back into the pros. Remember this was the guy who said he was a ???pro guy coaching in college??? when he ditched New Mexico State for the Sacramento Kings.

December 19, 2008  10:48 AM ET

I was under the impression that Pastner... Was someday going to be the guy... Whatever happened to that???

Reggie Theuss ?
Other than having nice hair, what exactly do you have going for you ?

December 19, 2008  12:26 PM ET

Reggie Theus would be great in Tucson following a legend like Coach Lute Olson. Theus can recruit as good as anyone, excellent with media, followed a similar legend at NMSU where the former NBA star player some quick success. University of Arizona basketball should give him strong consideration or surely another college or pro team will sooner rather than later.

Number of solid candidates out there....i think best of lot coached against UA last week....Mark Few...look at what he's done at Gonzaga...think what he could do at the UA

I agree, Mark Few would be a fantastic choice! Recruiting will be on more of a national scale so he'll have to adjust to that but I'm sure he won't have a problem. I think Reggie will just use Arizona as a stepping stone, if UA decides to go with him...they'll be back in this predicament in two to three yrs. UA needs to hire someone who wants to be there for decades. Longevity baby!

Does Theus interest Arizona?

December 19, 2008  04:13 PM ET

Few would be perfect ... :)

December 19, 2008  04:15 PM ET

I hope UofA take Billy Gillespie off our hands here and Kentucky....we certainly dont want him

Hard to see him as their 100th choice... He should take that Maloof money and hang out.

Spot on. I know that UA would be a massive step up for him. Does Few have interest in leaving Zag?

December 19, 2008  05:09 PM ET

I heard Few is an avid hunter and wouldn't leave Washington area. Dixon is my hope and I would settle for Pastner if he is ready. Whoever we get, they need an emphasis on defense.

I'd even settle for Pennel or Dunlap depending on their recruiting ability and how UA does this season.
