Who killed 4-team Garnett deal?
Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor and Lakers owner Jerry Buss began the groundwork for Kevin Garnett trade talks with a 20-minute chat on Friday. That conversation expanded Monday into discussions about a deal involving the Lakers, Minnesota, Indiana and Boston, in which the Lakers would have received Garnett. However, the deal broke down, reportedly because the Celtics didn't like what they would have gotten, ending the four-way negotiations.

This trade was stupid on Minnesota's and Boston's part. Both of their GM's should be fired immediately if they let this happen. Al Jeff and the #5 pick for a broken down expensive J Oneal?!?! KG for Al Jeff and #5 pick? If the wolves are desperate to trade him they should trade him to phoenix and get their 2 first from this year, the hawks next year pick and send marion to boston whether he likes it or not and get the # 5 pick.

are they serious?? indiana and lakers?? who will they get?? bynum ?? jermaine??
agree with arnold08 boston or minnesota should trade with phoenix bcoz it has lots of picks and they can build their franchise with young players.
the last time i check when a team traded thier superstar for a bunch of non-potential guy is when the lakers traded shaq for bryan grant, odom, and butler (plus a pick). where is the lakers now?? i hope the wolves have learned that lesson and will not do the same thing.

"i hope the wolves have learned that lesson and will not do the same thing."
This is Kevin McHale we are talking about. This is the same guy who has traded first round picks for "players" such as Marco Jaric, Ricky Davis and Justin Reed. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if such a lopsided deal went down under his watch. Honestly, McHale should have already been fired by now, but if he pulls this deal, the NBA should ban him from ever operating a roster ever again.

Danny Ainge, Larry Bird and Kevin McHale probably killed this four-way trade because of theirhatred for the Lakers going back to their rivalry in the 80s. They can't stomach the fact that this trade will surely put the Lakers back into title contention. Too bad for them. The Lakers and Wolves are still talking because of their owners desire to push through with this trade. Glen Taylor doesn't want tooffer Garnett a contract extension. Jerry Buss is very willing to offer that extension the moment Garnett becomes a Laker! Garnett is looking forward to his new start in Los Angeles!

its interesting if KG will be a lakers. their salary will cover almost 50% of the whole team. and that means less talents in thier supporting cast. by the way with KG as a laker they will not be a title contender in a flash. who will be their PG?? farmar?? SF? C?? and who will come off the bench?? KOBE with KG looks good on paper but can they really beat deeper teams like the spurs??

It's a bad trade anyway.
I insist for the following:
Garnett to Phoenix
Marion to Seattle
Lewis to Minnesota + fringe players (Petro, Sene, Fortson, etc.)
Everybody will be happy with this (including the players)

This an extremely bad trade for the Celtics. Danny Ainge can not pull the trigger on this deal. Jermaine O'Neal is an alright player but not for Al Jefferson and the 5 pick.

Yeah I expected this...the Celtics weren't gonna pay KG price (#5 + Jefferson) for Jermaine O'Neal. I was hoping the Lakers could sweeten the pot witha future first rounder or something. The TWolves are gonna end up having to take Shawn Marion, plus the Hawks unprotected first rounder next year and something else for Garnett though i wouldn't do that. That trade by Mr. Sonic is crazy...Garnett is infinitely better than Marion and Marion is WAY better than Lewis.
And to those who say a Kobe/KG tandom wouldn't work....what should they do, keep scrubs like Kwame, Odom's 14 million dollar salary, and pray Bynum turns into something decent before Kobe's in a wheelchair. The franchise has a once in a generation talent and is going nowhere with it. A starting five of Steve Blake/Kobe/Walton/KG/Mihm with Farmar, Evans, Turiaf off the bench may not be as great as Dallas/Phoenix/San Antonio...but who is? At least we'd be a top-4 team and have a chance at a championship if we commit to defense. Plus, Kobe is a San Antonio/Dallas killer and KG is an MVP caliber player as well. There is no team that can make a trade to vault themselves automatically ahead in the West, but this is a start.

This trade has nothing to do with GM's liking or disliking each other. This is all business and it will happen. This trade will be history making. I know it sound slike Minnesota is giving up too much but they are in rebuilding mode and need to take as much off their books as possible.
I can't wait for this to happen baby. KB & KG are gonna take over the West.

hey, all of you idiots ie: arnold and chad...man try to learn something about the game before you start to speak...If the wolves dont trade garnett he is going to walk...period...also..what the hell does boston have to lose...they stink anyway and not even jordan could make them champions..and listen up...phoenix is not going to trade amare...not at all....not for anyone....and the matrix is a one dimensional player who we still dont know if he cane play in a set offense....the wolves are terrible even with garnetts huge contract so what do they have to lose...i agree..to me the lakers are getting the best player in the deal...but garnett is 31 yrs old and is still owed 20 million on his contract as well as a 6.5 million trade payout....so mchale has to trade garnett and he refuses to go just anywhere...the truth is that ainge wanted garnett...period ...and when kevin came out and said that he doesnt want to go to boston ainge pulled out....and so what....the lakers and wolves have enough to both make the lakers really good right now as well as make the wolves younger, much more flexible and get them some salary cap relief...cause if they wait too long..they will get nothing...go and do your homework boys...stop shooting your mouths off...

If K.G. has to go than I hope he does go to L.A. It will be exciting to watch Kobe and him, but the Lakers will still need more help to be considered the best in the West

KG is going to L.A. Whether you want it or not, L.A. has the best players to offer for KG. It give MN a few young talented players...a great one on Odom and it takes a huge load off their books with regards to salary.
Either MN takes the package now for KG or they get nohing in return next year. What would you do?

MN can't pay for players. MN wants draft picks or 1st or 2nd year players.
They have to cut costs and hope to do well with young folks.
Might as well trade Garnett to the Bulls for the last 8 Knicks first round picks or whatever they gave up for Curry (*joke about # of picks for a dude that is an overweight small forward*)
Kobe to the bulls? Never going to happen. KG to the Bulls? I can see that.

I know I might sound really naive and ignorant, but why doesn't anyone ever talk about ronny turiaf? personally when i've seen him on the court, he's done some good things like play pretty solid defense, especially help-side. though i do have to admit, he's not necessarily gifted offensively, but if any sort of deal goes through with the lakers and garnett, i don't think any laker fan will have to worry at all about the offense because kobe and KG are both players who have great isolation moves and can finish at the basket on any given play. and i know a lot of you are probably going to bash me on this one, but sorry if i don't have enough money (i.e. college on the east coast) to pay for the NBA channels to watch the Lakers on a consistent basis

I think that trade would of hurt boston not help them..Boston should keep their 5th pick because they are almost certain to get a star player at that pick..Garnett to the lakers they would have two stars on the lakers combine salary of about 47million...the cap is 58 million you do the math.. The lakers would only have 11million to 18 million dollars to pay for the rest of the team..They would not have money to resign Walton even if they do not resign Kwame Brown 9million dollar contract...The lakers would have two superstars with no supporting cast around them...They still would not beat teams like the suns mavs or spurs..

Frankly, the Celtics potentially have more to lose than anybody and I am glad they nixed this deal, if that is what really went down.
