Jazz owner blasts Boozer

10:02 AM ET 12.19 | Jazz owner Larry Miller slammed Carlos Boozer in his weekly radio appearance on KFAN 1320, saying, "It's one of the top 10 stupidest things I've heard an NBA player do in 20 years." Miller said Boozer's timing [in announcing his plans to opt out after the season] detracted from the Jazz's victory over New Jersey and came not only as he has missed 15 games with a strained left quadriceps tendon but after he missed 80 games early on after coming to the Jazz. Those memories are hard to shake, with Miller saying, "a lot of people are still suspicious about that, a lot of fans and stuff, and we've covered for him and protected him, justifiably." Miller made his comments from the hospital after a week in which he missed two Jazz games with continued health problems. He also said the Jazz a couple of years ago agreed to trade Boozer to find a team in a city with a better medical fit for his oldest son, Carmani. At the time, Carmani was battling sickle cell disease, which was made more difficult by Salt Lake City's altitude. Boozer asked to be traded to four teams (presumably at sea level) and Miller said he agreed before Carmani underwent a bone marrow transplant that cured him of the disease.

Sounds like we're going to see another difficult split. Hope they handle it better than the Knicks (but this story by Miller is a bad start).

December 19, 2008  10:15 AM ET

What's really weird is that there was another T&R in this spot about Boozer's announcing his opt out in a radio program. Where did that one go?

December 19, 2008  10:27 AM ET

What did you expect?? This is Carlos Boozer. Looks like he's always boozed up when it comes to contracts and trades. A Whiner, a loser and an unethical snob. I gave him the benefit of the doubt with the Cavs situation, but now, he's showing his true colors. I hope GMs take the cue and not rush to signing him.

I can feel Miller's pain. When Marbury lost his Dad the whole Knicks team supported him. I even saw David Lee carrying the casket. The point is owners wrisk their assets to help out players in times of need but some of these guys are so inhumane and ungrateful that it hurts these owners to the core.

I can now see why Dolan was so mad he told D'Antoni to send Marbury home if he blinks wrong before the season opener and I can also understand the pain of Larry Miller.

Indiana did likewise for Ron Artest. These players need to realize there is more to life than greed and they have to learn to treat owners who are also human beings with equity.

Seriously? A whiner? Cleveland had their chance to match the offer, they chose not to. He's going to opt out, he can and will get a max contract over 7 years... How many players that are Top 5 in their position don't opt out of their last year? Another Top 5 power forward just opted out of his last year too, Elton Brand... and he took less money to escape the Clippers. Brand, Boozer, David West.... these guys should be around 17-18 mil a year... and that's a bargain.

i warned people about carlos boozer he is just like nick sabban the alabama coach they have no integrity and dignity.how could you do this to the whole city, your teammates.the team, the owner who stood by you. he did the same to cleveland and guess what they are better whitout him

December 19, 2008  10:55 AM ET

i wonder how boozer is going to mesh with beasley and wade next year

Everyone knows he's opting out. It's more of the timing. The "I'm going to get a raise, no matter what" comment came while he has been injured for 15 games, his toughness is being quesitoned, and the country is having the most layoffs since the early 1980s.

As a Jazz fan, I love Booz, and think he takes a bad rap sometimes. He's a guy who played last guy off the bench in the Olympics, but never once whined about it. However, the timing of this and the way it was stated was pretty idiotic.

What did Miller expect? You reap what you sow. He sounds like the 'other woman' that finally gets the man to leave his wife, and then years later is shocked that he's leaving her for yet another woman. They knew Boozer wasn't honorable when they signed him. They chose to live with that - - - and now they ARE living with it. Good luck with that.

I have no sympathy for Miller or Boozer.

December 19, 2008  11:12 AM ET

Boozer has never been known for diplomacy. This is just more fodder for the class of 2010. We'll hear about this until he signs somewhere. If I was Miller, I'd trade him now.

Are you stupid in the head or something? Oh, and answering this post will only confirm your stupidity numb nuts.

"It's one of the top 10 stupidest things I've heard an NBA player do in 20 years."

And that comment is one of the top 10 stupidest things I've heard an NBA OWNER say in 20 years.
I mean how dumb are you to acknowlege that? now he's just going to be pissed off & 'demand' a trade....what are you buddies with hank steinbrenner ?

December 19, 2008  11:30 AM ET

Boozer needs to go to Miami

Chalmers
Wade
Boozer
Beasley
Haslem

Would be a rock solid lineup

December 19, 2008  11:37 AM ET

Regarding post #5 ...NO ..they could NOT match it. Boozer asked them to literally let him out of final year of contract so he could sign the max with Cleveland. He told Cleveland "if you let me out of final year..I sign with you for max." Cleveland did this and when they did...he signed the max with Utah. Gone. That is why he is a jerk. He snookered Cleveland bad ..and since Cleveland didnt have him under contract ...they cant match anything.

December 19, 2008  11:39 AM ET

I was pretty surprised, too, to hear Boozer come out right now and say I'm going to opt out and get a raise from somewhere. I knew Boozer was deceitful, but I didn't realize he was that...what's the word I'm looking for? Oh yeah...STUPID.

Larry, give thanks for Paul Millsap.

December 19, 2008  11:49 AM ET

this guy sucks, way overpaid, how anyone can think this guy is any good is a mystery

Do you not understand how being a *RESTRICTED* Free Agent works? They absolutely COULD match the *offer sheet* Utah put out there. However, they only way they WOULD match it would be thru a Mid Level Exception that year, which the deal far exceeded. They were at the salary cap that year... they may be willing to go over the cap now and pay luxury, but then they would not do such a thing. It was the same old sad Cleveland story as always... always good enough to make the playoffs, never willing to spend to get over the hump. Now they're only over cuz they traded for Ben Wallace in one of the worst moves ever. There was never a "I'll sign with you for max" statement, that's just utter stupidity. They released him from his rookie contract, making him a RESTRICTED free agent with all intentions of paying him ONLY mid-level exception money. Utah swooped in and offered him more than the exception, Cleveland walked away, and Boozer did the only SMART thing and signed the offer sheet... and even then, they had all kinds of time to match the offer and retain him.... because, again, he was a RESTRICTED free agent.

Oh, and Livery, go **** yourself. You've got 20 posts and not a single one of them has added any value to any discussion, anywhere. You fail at life. Tool.

Gee, I don't know... the 20/10+ averages he gets game in game out? He's a Top 5 Power Forward, and has been since he entered the league.

Yeah i gave him the benefit of the doubt as well. It ticks me off so bad.

Most players are focused in on the season and want to look forward to going to the playoffs and working towards a Finals Berth. But Boozer sees young Paul Millsap posting 13 consecutive double doubles, leading the league in consectutive double doubles and Boozer wants some attention back.

HEY GUYS I AM GOING TO OPT OUT.

Get the Hell out of Utah Booz, you screwed us for 2 years with your Lazy man injuries, got your paycheck. Go try to find a Raise. Your supposed to get 12.66 Million Next Season. But with your apparent Failures in the Playoffs, Olympics, and with Doctors to repair your body GM's are going to be leary.

Especially after leaving Cleveland the way you did and now obviously not being loyal to Utah, the Team that made you an All Star and Gold Medal Athlete.

Thats alright though, Millsap will take us to the Finals, not Boozer.

NO BOOZ IN UTAH, STATE LAW ON SUNDAY

December 19, 2008  11:59 AM ET

Boozer plays as if he's committed to the team, but when it comes to contracts and trades, he does dumb stuff. This is really idiotic of him!!!
