Auburn chasing Georgia assistant
Auburn is pursuing Georgia's highly regarded offensive line coach, Stacy Searels, for a possible position on new coach Gene Chizik's staff. "They're talking to him," Georgia coach Mark Richt said Friday. "So we'll see [what happens]." Searels, in his second season on Georgia's staff after four years as LSU's offensive line coach, has deep ties to Auburn. He played for the Tigers under coach Pat Dye from 1984-87, earning All-American honors as an offensive lineman in his senior season. He has undergraduate and Master's degrees from Auburn. Searels, 43, has been often praised by Richt and others for his work with Georgia's young, injury-depleted line this season.

Hmmm, a highly regarded offensive coach. The 2 things Chizik isn't. Maybe they should have pursued Searels for head coach? But, I guess they wanted somebody with a proven track record...even if all it did was prove he couldn't win.
I can't wait for the Chizik era to start. The sooner it starts, the sooner we can get this over with.

From what little I know of Chizik he is a great DC, but appears to be short a couple of "downs" as a head coach. But, a lot of people wrote off Paul Johnson at GA Tech this year, but they had to eat serious crow when he finished the regular season with 9 wins and a couple of close losses. So, this time, maybe we should wait a season or two and see what happens.

I would stay out of Auburn if I were Searles b/c Chizik will probably be leaving in 2-3 years anyways.

Was reading Chizik's bio in the Iowa St media guide... Gene Chizik was the man. From the moment Iowa State athletics director Jamie Pollard began a search for a new head football coach in 2006, Chizik was at the top of Pollard???s list of potential candidates. He wasn???t alone. Everyone wanted Gene Chizik. It was no surprise, then, that improvement of the Cyclone football program in its first year under Chizik was immediate. Chizik???s first ISU team beat rival Iowa and made steady progress throughout the season. Iowa State closed out the 2007 home season with wins over Kansas State and bowl-bound Colorado, affirming the major advances the Cyclones made on both sides of the ball. Iowa State fans embraced Chizik. Cyclone backers bought a school-record 36,000 season tickets in 2007 and posted the school???s best home game attendance average (49,462) since 1982. A school-record 56,795 fans packed Jack Trice Stadium for last season???s game against Northern Iowa.
Chizik???s first win, a 15-13 victory over intrastate rival Iowa, made him the first Iowa State coach since 1907 to beat the Hawkeyes in his initial season. The back-to-back wins over Kansas State and Colorado were the first consecutive Big 12 victories for the Iowa State program since 2005...
Amazing what difference 3 1/2 months make since that was written.

Did he forget everything that made him the top head coaching prospect two years ago?? I guess when you can???t do much with those talent-laden Cyclones players???

I know that Auburn is home for Searels, but I would steer clear of this trainwreck for awhile!

The way Chizik is recruiting right now I wouldnt be suprised if he ended up doing okay at Auburn. Something tells me he must be one hell of a recruiter and a hell of a guy if Carlos Rogers would fly to Atl then drive to Auburn just for Chizik's conference, it says something. I am not talking about any SEC championships soon but 8 wins seasons in the near future. Auburn doesnt loose any huge players from last year, not that there were too many...

I too think Chizik might do well. Before the Iowa St. debacle he was highly regarded. Maybe not right away, but Auburn should win some games.
