Bobby Crosby appears to be fading from the A's plans for 2009, but another well-known name in Oakland could be getting a second opportunity with his former team. The A's are poised to begin talks with free-agent designated hitter Jason Giambi, who was named the American League MVP while playing in Oakland in 2001. General manager Billy Beane chatted with Giambi's agent, Arn Tellem, this week, and the sides could begin discussing a contract early next week. According to sources close to Giambi, he is looking for a three-year deal, but Oakland is not likely to offer more than two years and perhaps an option. Giambi will turn 38 in January.

The Giambino- steroids aside-
is an excellent pick up for the right price
he will give you 30 + hrs, good on base
and other than his roid history- is really a good teammate
- no way I'd give him 3 years at his age...
but I can see the Angels getting him if they don't get Tex or manny

Well his golden thong will definitely compliment his A's uniform better than Yankee pinstripes.

Good pickup i like this decision

Crosby to the Jays?

December 21, 2008  02:33 PM ET

A's can use a power hitter like Gimabi

December 21, 2008  02:36 PM ET

I liked Bing Crosby but i like Telly more!

If we don't re-sign Tex... I think Giambi would be a good fit for the Angels... He is a local kid... And it won't be up to him to carry the offense.... All he has to do... Is hit 25 bombs... Drive in some runs... And play decent D

Giambi and Holliday will make the A's lineup much better. They could be interesting this year, depending on how some of the young guys pan out. The interesting thing to watch for will be how they start, and if they get off to a slow one, will they dangle Matt Holliday for other teams? I'd think yes.

I'd rather have Kathy Lee Crosby

santiago casilla, justin duchsherer, sean gallagher.......

i'll tell you how it is. you owe me a shower.

The A's have a good acquisition, considering that last year, I only knew like 3 people on the offense. With Holliday and Giambi, that would add depth and experience to a relatively young team.
