Orton's future with Bears uncertain

General manager Jerry Angelo will have to make a decision in the coming months. Has he seen enough of Kyle Orton to commit long-term? Or does he want more time -- a decision that would be precarious for all of the reasons early extensions can be difficult. Go into next season with Orton heading to free agency, and there's no guarantee he returns. Put the pressure of playing for a deal on his shoulders, and it risks becoming a distraction.

if i was them i wouldnt give him a new deal just yet. let grossman go and find another QB via free agency or either the draft and go from there. too many times teams give up BIG money to a person after 1 good yr and end up getting burned

As a Packer Fan, i strongly suggest that Orton signs a long term contract with the Bears.

December 22, 2008  07:29 AM ET

I need him to throw for 400 yards & 4 TDs tonight.

December 22, 2008  08:31 AM ET

Who?

December 22, 2008  08:44 AM ET

Orton needs to shave that stupis mustache, he looks like a 70s porn star!

December 22, 2008  08:45 AM ET

Stupid!

December 22, 2008  08:46 AM ET

Just wait and see .... is that too hard to ask. We spent years watching Grossman.
Give Orton a chance we have him signed for one more year. We all know how cheep the owners of the Bears can be. So i really do not want them spending a boatload on Orton only to find out he is not the one. It would take years to recover mispent money .

Sign Cassell.

December 22, 2008  10:15 AM ET

They need to hold onto Orton with a death-grip-like hold. When's the last time they had a QB as good as Orton?

December 22, 2008  10:47 AM ET

So they dont sign Orton?? And get... who????!!!

December 22, 2008  10:53 AM ET

Why is it Chicago refuses to draft a decent QB or chase one in FA?

December 22, 2008  11:07 AM ET

I think it would be foolish at this time to let him go. At the very least they would need somebody as they transitioned a draft pick. Besides it seems to me he is doing very well for playing hobbled!
Go Bears!!!

December 22, 2008  11:24 AM ET

Like Ekic Cramer. It is a crap shoot.
They have him signed threw 2009 season. Just wait and see. Rather pay for someone who we have sean for 2 years than jump the gun just because we are scared he will do well and cost us even more at the end of the second year. Grossman even looked halfway decent after 1 year.

My guess is Cassel is heading where ever Josh McDaniels goes, and that wont be Chicago.

"Orton's future with Bears uncertain"

EVERYTHING about the Bears is uncertain, except uncertainty itself .... and the fact that numb nuts Jerry Angelo is going to draft more QBs and first rounders who are going to be a bust! THAT .... WILL .... NOT .... CHANGE!!!

He might need it for a second career ..... if the Bears miss the playoffs! He might be auditioning for a John Holmes look-alike!

December 22, 2008  12:58 PM ET

with forte the bears have a good RB. the bears defense is generally solid. add a quarterback who is competent (orton) and you have a chance to compete for years.

don't be greedy at QB. if you have good one keep them. there is only 1 peyton.

December 22, 2008  01:07 PM ET

Thats not Santa knocking at your door,
Thats Donavon McNabb, new Bears QB!!

December 22, 2008  01:24 PM ET

Orton is better than Trent Dilfer and Trent won a Superbowl.
Just forget getting old QB`s who are getting on the old side. Bret Farve is now going to be NYJ headache ... not sure if he is going to play next year and nothing ready in the back ground.
