How Redskins spied on Westbrook

To Greg Blache, no player in the NFL has been more dynamic this month than Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook, and the Redskins' defensive coordinator went to extremes as he schemed to contain him. There's a danger in that, but his approach worked perfectly yesterday, with the proof coming in just how seldom Westbrook actually touched the ball in Washington's 10-3 win at FedEx Field. "We were going to deny him the football," Blache said. "Westbrook is the guy who makes them go. He does more for his team than probably anybody else in the NFL right now today." To that end, Blache utilized just a three-man pass rush most of the game, with an extra defender devoted to Westbrook in coverage. End Jason Taylor (playing his best game as a Redskin) was used in a hybrid role, roaming along the line, playing at times as a linebacker, and drawing Westbrook in many coverages. Middle linebacker London Fletcher, end Demetric Evans and defensive tackles Anthony Montgomery and Lorenzo Alexander also dropped into coverage to shadow Westbrook based on the defensive call.

There was no spying on this boy. Sure he can run fast, but he is not that much of a weapon on a team that truly sucks. The QB is really out there with his thoughts on life and overtime. Too bad that them boys did not listen to the really good coach that they had for he was really a scapegoat for a bunch of whining type of people.

GO COWBOYS!

December 22, 2008  07:36 AM ET

It's sad that the Cowboys and Eagle still have a chance at the playoffs. After the "effort" from both teams this weekend, neither really deserves to be there. Anyways, it should be a good game this Sunday. Go 'Boys..

The Eagles choked, simple as that. Here I am thinking that they would play some inspired ball and they laid an egg. Andy Reid stinks.

Attribute that to the either the parity or mediocrity of the league this season, the choice is yours!

Good morning. Wanted to say worse. The highlight of the weekend was Welker making a snow angel. Very funny!

I can't believe he got a penalty for that. C'mon, it was just a snow angel for crying out loud. It's not like he mooned the crowd or anything. Geez.

doesn't Tampa just have to beat Oakland next week for both the iggles and cowboys to be out of the playoffs? Atlanta locked up 1 WC spot with their win over Minn....

No. Dallas owns the tie-breaker over the Bucs. Dallas wins and they're in

Any words from Al Davis on Oakland's win yesterday? He must be beside himself with joy.

Although I do agree here,Y I am so freaking happy that they have one more shot!

There is some football GOD or something somewhere that is trying to help the Cowboys...Bucs lost and then the oh so favored Eagles loose such a low scoring game. Someone is trying to get the Boys in the mix and I just hope they don't blow it this time...

And one more thing....Please tell me that some team somewhere (isn't there going to be like 10 of them) will want to interview J Garrett for head coach. I like the guy and really want him to succeed but Jerry can't turn the reigns over to him next year. And Garrett getting hired somewhere else is the only way Jerry can get out of this mess he made

I saw a clip of that.....did the refs throw a flag for using the snow as a prop?

I was too busy yelling 'you've got to be kidding me' to hear what was said.

Garrett will not be the head coach next year. And I doubt Jerry will fire Wade after this year. The 2 big plays the Ravens scored on weren't because of bad coaching. It was because of missed tackles by the man Jerry franchised this past summer (Hamlin). And can someone explain to me why the Cowboys drafted Roy Williams#1 over Ed Reed a couple years ago?

Proud of the Falcons. The Eagles and Cowboys don't deserve to be in the playoffs. Of course, the Redskins are already out.

No. If the Cowboys win they are in. Pretty sure I am right on that. Eagles could win and not get in. Tampa Bay could win and not get in, or in if Eagles win. Lol.
