It may not happen today as has been speculated, but an announcement on Jay Zygmunt's resignation is imminent, according to Rams team sources. Zygmunt is the Rams' president of football operations-general manager and has worked in some capacity with the organization for 27 seasons. Even if it doesn't come today, team sources said it will definitely come at some point this week. It is expected to be the first of several moves that will result in a major restructuring of the Rams' front office. Billy Devaney, the team's executive vice president of personnel, will receive a new title and broader powers in the organization. And John Shaw, who has been with the club for 29 years, is expected to relinquish his team president title while remaining with the club as a consultant to ownership, particularly owner and chairman Chip Rosenbloom.

its gonna be a whole new rams team next year from top to bottom. lucky for them their starting the new regime early and not allowing the team to sink even further. their talking about getting a defensive head coach (possibly rex ryan) which will be a good thing to give the team a whole new identity. holt is gonna be gone and wouldnt be suprised if bulgers' days are number also

I think Matt Millen is available for GM.

Hurry it up, 'cause the Rams are embarrassing. I'm so glad they left L.A. Don't think of coming back 'cause WE DON'T WANT YOU!!!

December 22, 2008  07:47 AM ET

Praise the Lord. Zygmunt has needed to go for years.

December 22, 2008  07:48 AM ET

At least three-- if not eight-- years too late if you ask me. Hopefully Jay Zygmunt is the first of many in the Rams front office to hit the unemployment line.

Thats funny "arejaydub" cause the NFL has been trying to give you idiots a team for years and - surprise - the league is doing just fine without SmellLA.

We'll see if this is a real makeover in the front office or just a few changes to appease the fans. Holt is gone, Bulger is a mess from getting beaten senseless behind that JV Offensive Line. The defense is undersized and lacks playmakers. Even if the rebuilding is for real its gonna be awhile before the Rams are competitive again.

Rosenbloom is going right the ship. I look forward to a new leadership team to get the Rams to the level of contenders they need to be. While I could spout off all day on what needs to happen, what players need to go, what free agents need to be digned and who to draft. I know that it really does not matter. I do have confidence in Rosenbloom, he is smart like his father and will make changes needed to mamake the Rams a contender again.

Last night I was watching the 'Americas Game' episode on the 99 rams...my how the times change.

I hope so, but remember who his mother was.

about time

But will remain as a consultant. Good counsel coming the Rams way, baby!!

December 22, 2008  08:45 PM ET

I love the Rams, and I'm encouraged about the prospects for change. A concern I have is the passive decisions of old is replaced by new passive decisions. We need someone with a little backbone, and less loyalty to players like Bulger, who really can't cut the musturd. I'd like to see someone in the front office who doesn't think losing is just part of the game!

Yeah, I know the gene pool thing. However, He grew up with football around him. He started his own venture in Hollywood and has remained out of the limelight while his company gained success. I have no reason to believe that the same would not happen with the Rams. With Z gone and Shaw not far behind. I have to be optimistic.

Cheers

I agree, a whole whole whole lot.

Get rid of Bulger, he trusts no one on this team from getting beaten senseless (and with good reason), trade Holt for a 2nd rounder (maybe 3rd I don't know his worth) and start building the O-line up first.

Of course, practically ever other position needs help too, so signing young FA's isn't a bad idea either. Sure would've been nice if McCoy went pro...
