While Kevin Gilbride's name has been connected to the Raiders' head-coaching job (after turning down an interview request from Syracuse), there's another Giants assistant coach who could be taking a job elsewhere. Per a report in yesterday's Times-Herald Record, Giants WR coach Mike Sullivan is a leading candidate for the head job at Army, where he has played and coached. The report says at least seven candidates were to interview this weekend, though it doesn't specifically state whether Sullivan was part of that group.

Gilbride coached the Oilers/Titans correct? That worked out well.....I'm just bracing myself for a team that wants to hire John Madden......

Army needs a Coach who instills discipline and the desire to run the ball. Army is not going to get the recruits that a bigger school without a military comittment will enjoy.

They had that with Bobby "Bug Up my Arse" Ross.....so there is no hope. Service academies should just become subdivision schools...

Army ?
why would you coach there when you are unfortunatley guaranteed of never being a winning program - obviously due to impossible recruiting issues ??

Only person would be a young guy that needs a break...Gilbride is far from an 'unknown'

Navy and Air Force has had success in Div I, and so has Army in the past. There is no reason Army can't have the kind of success it had during my cadet years in the late 80's and early 90's. Bobby Ross hung Army out to dry. An ambitious coach with an understanding and appreciation of the service academies' uniqueness, demands, and needs as well as a sound scheming mind can bring success.

NEVER being a winning program? Have you looked at Army's past record? Funny, while I was a cadet at West Point we had successive winning seasons as well as a string of successful seasons in the 90's. Impossible recruiting? Navy and Air Force have shown they can recruit good talent and stay competitive, as Army has in the past. Only person would be a young guy that needs a break? Coach Young, one of the most successful Army coaches was not a "young" coach that needed a "break" when he came to Army. Bob Sutton, now in the NFL, was not a young coach by any stretch of imagination.

Just hilarious reading misinformed and over exaggerated nonsense from folks.

People, people, Please read the article before commenting. It clearly states that the Giant coach under consideration is not gillbride but Mike Sullivan. Sheesh, sometimes I think we need to have a reading and acomprehension test before people are allowed to comment!

Ross came to Army after a stint with the hapless and now winless Detroit Lions. Hell that's enough of a experience to diminish any skills a coach would have left in him. Army needs a committed young coach with a solid plan to give this program a solid direction. Army has just seemed lost since the 90's, it can be once again a solid program with the right hire for coach.

That's all great but time has slipped by and now it is 2008

GLEN MASON (former Minnesota head coach)......always had a good running game at Minnesota and Kansas, solid O-line too....good recruiter, discipline...good resume'.....let go after an emotional bowl loss where they led Texas Tech by 31 but Tech came back----he was fired the next day....more of knee-jerk reaction....look at the whole body of work...im still surprised this guy isnt back coaching yet...Iowa State missed out on him....Army would be smart...start at the ground up...literally

December 22, 2008  05:50 PM ET

If Army is smart, they would go after Navy offensive coordinator Ivin Jasper. Success breeds success. Navy has done an excellent job the last few years running the football and Army would be well served moving in this direction.

December 22, 2008  06:29 PM ET

they need to get someone who runs an uncommon (now days) system like navy did with the triple option or air force in the past with the wing t, they cannot expect to beat teams running a west coast offense or spread offense with less talent, size, and speed.

December 23, 2008  10:42 AM ET

Might be the only position for RR, after he finishes messing up Mich.

December 23, 2008  10:43 AM ET

And please keep the uniforms.

December 23, 2008  10:58 AM ET

Go Army, beat Navy!

Hopefully Obama doesn't cut the team out of the Defense budget...

Discipline is the least of a coaches worry at an academy school. Athletes is what keeps them from wielding competitive teams.

Just keep watching Sean Hannity and listening to Rush Limbaugh and leave sports to competent adults okay 'tard.
