Yankees deny Teixeira, Ramirez offers

Mark Teixeira and Manny Ramirez are still available to the Yankees, but it doesn't appear GM Brian Cashman will have either player sitting under his Christmas tree this week. "We don't have any offers out there on anybody," Cashman said yesterday. The GM offered that statement while denying a published report in the Dominican Republic that said the Yankees had offered Ramirez a three-year contract worth $75 million. An AL executive said it is unlikely Scott Boras, who represents both Teixeira and Ramirez, will get anything done with the latter until the former signs a contract.

The Yankees are gonna land Texeria. Manny is a boy that is just acting like them idiots. Basic story that is reflected over and over again.....pro athlete shows upbringing in their behaviors.

i think the yanks should pick up manny. let me tell you why. for one thing, manny's contract would sure be a heck of a lot shorter than tex's with relatively the same stats. i dont think the yankees were really in the market for a long term first baseman. eventually they're gonna have to move jeter over to 1st and so picking up a 8 year contract for tex just seems ridiculous. although manny has a huge ego, doesn't everyone else on the yankees? i'm sure he'd fit right in. i hate to say it, but he's probably the better choice for this ballclub

I'd like to see the Yankees sign Manny, just for the controversy on cutting his hair. That would be media fodder for months. Heck, for 75 mil. I'd shave ny head.

once teixeria gets off the table, expect manny to get some pretty beefy short term contract offers. (54 million for for 2, 80 for 3 ect)

I agree with you one hundred percent Beast. Great comment, and great insight into the Yankees' future.

Manny's ego bruises real easy and contrary to opinions money doesn't solve it for him. Right now he's looking for a 5 or 6 year deal but might have to settle for 2 or 3. He wasn't about 28 to 30 mil a year, but will need to sign for 22 to 25. He's not even concidered the best catch out there as he's having to wait for everyone to finish with Teixiera, another blow to his ego. For Manny to play well he has to be happy and even though he is the breed that money makes me happy he has shown in the past that it doesn't. I'm not sure why Yankee fans want him, he can hit but so could Abreau and he was less expensive. Manny's defence isn't that good, he had good assist numbers because of Fenway and being able to play shallow all the time, he won't have that luxury anywhere else. If he was unhappy being in Boston with all the media and no privacy what do you think he will have in New York? The Dodgers are the team he should sign for, just a all around better fit.

But the Yanks already have a glut at Left field/DH (Posada if he can't catch, Matsui, Damon) so where is Manny going to play. I would rather the Yanks not get him (And I won't root for the team if they do after the way he quit on the Sox). Let Matsui and Damon's 13-14 mil contracts end after this year and go after someone else who can play left.
The Yanks won all those 1996-2000 titles without superstar stats guys. Only Tino in 1997 (A year they didn't win) had over 33 HR's in that span. The line up and bullpen were deep. I'd rather see them concentrate there.

December 23, 2008  08:39 AM ET

Manny shoould stay in LA....at least when he dogs it there like he did in Boston no one will care. Every Dodger fan is used to LA sucking since 1989.....LA has got a boatload of trash making all kinds of buckage like Schmidt and Jones....

matt holiday is a free agent next offseason. and depending on weather the sox extend Bay they will both need LFers, so that should be fun

I surprised we got this far without it being said
MUCK FANNY!

December 23, 2008  08:56 AM ET

they've denied that specific offer was made....doesn't mean another offer isn't out there

December 23, 2008  08:57 AM ET

I think Teixiera takes a little less money and goes to the Red Sox. The Yanks will NOT agree to another 7-8 yr contract. I believe once he signs, hopefully soon because all of us here at Fan Nation are tired of hearing about it, Manny will garner interest from the Yankees and Angels, but will sign a 3 yr deal with the Yanks for around 70 million.

1. CF Damon. 2. SS Jeter. 3. DH/LF Manny 4. 3B A Rod. 5. DH/LF Matsui 6. C Posada 7. RF Nady 8. 2B Cano. 9. 1B Swisher

I don't love Damon in center and I don't love Matsui/Manny in left. Hopefully the pitching will keep the ball from flying around too much.

With this lineup... Over/under 900 runs.

Thoughts?

Damon in center!?

Good luck with that.

My apologies for trying to elicit discussion in an interactive message board. No, you're right. It is much more satisfying for people to be calling each other racial slurs and insults. I would think that someone who has 5700+ comments would have something to say. You enjoy your green hat.

@ Hyper:

yeah not thrilled with damon in center. did not like the move three years ago and still don't like it.

Yeah, Damon cannot play center on a regular basis. Put Melky there, even if he doesn't hit a ton, and you'd be okay. Trade Matsui to San Fran or the Cubs or Atlanta for something.

I would be happy to platoon Gardner and Melky and see what happens. Melky has a above average arm but it is obvious he will never hit over .250 for a season. Gardner has the speed the Yankees have lacked since Rickey Henderson. Not comparing the two by a long shot, no way.

Melky cannot bunt to save his life. Gardner can.

I will be surprised if the Yankees dont sign both Texiera and Manny. The Yankees formula for "success" is to simply outbid the rest of the world for top talent. This is because they ahve the deepest pockets. How in the world will small market teams like the Pirates and Royals ever contend?
the Yankess will continue to "contend" and win world series just by spending money like its nothing. What ever happened to developing prospects from within? the Yankees are example #1 of how baseball is broken. The league needs a salary cap, pure and simple. Until that happens, every all star who becomes a free agent will just wind up taking the Yankees money.

the same amount of different teams have made it to the superbowl that have made it to the WS since they started playing the superbowl so how is it broken? the rays (one of the lowest payroll in MLB) were in the WS and the phillies are on the lower end of the paroll scael too
