The Tennessee football program on Monday picked up a commitment from wide receiver James Green of Tallahassee, Fla. Green (6-2, 202) had offers from multiple elite programs, including Florida, Florida State, Ohio State, Georgia and Auburn. He is the 17th commitment for UT's 2009 class and Rivals.com ranks Green as the nation's No. 32 wide receiver prospect and a four-star recruit. t was the second high-profile prospect new UT Coach Lane Kiffin has landed since taking the job three weeks ago. Kiffin recently received a commitment from four-star defensive back Eric Gordon from Hillsboro High School.

Nice...but I'm not getting too excited yet. Fulmer could recruit too. Let's see how good Kiffin does on game day.

he moved up here from dade county and produced some good numbers for a school that hasn't had a competitive team in over a decade and lead them to the playoffs, that said he should have stayed with south florida compared to the d he is going to see in the sec.

Oh please. Enough already. The SEC is a great football conference, there's no doubt about it. That being said, could all of you SEC HOMERS please stop pretending that every other conference is weak and feeble. The SEC isn't even the best conference in the country this year.

This kid is a 6'2", 202lb. receiver. I'm pretty sure he could survive whatever the Mighty SEC has to offer. Give me a break...

All the Kiffens need is a few solid recuits on each side of the ball and in a year or 2 they'll be a force again!

December 23, 2008  11:25 AM ET

hey ****, my commenting on south florida had nothing to do with conference superiority, just the fact that the big east is weak and that there is no reason USF shouldn't be playing in a bcs bowl each year, wvu is gone and hawaii gave cincy' the game, and tennessee is on its way to at least three years of 4-5 losses. and in case you forgot you'r still a nole, that must suck, enjoy the 8-5 season, Jimbo Fisher is exploding with offense prowess. look ut-chattanooga and wcu combined 4-20, and look Fisher took the reigns fsu vs. uf 0-2 while being outscored 90-27 so that's an avg. of 45-13, umm...taste it. so here is my superiority complex florida compared to fsu.

(2 yrs. at half-a*s u)
Jimbo Fisher 15-10 0-2 vs. uf
Dan Mullen 21-5 2-0 vs. fsu

Jeff Bowden where are you when we need you most.

(last 2 yrs. at half-a*s u)
Jeff Bowden 15-11 0-2 vs. uf, but at least he got an acc title.

Tennessee is doomed...blame it on KARMA.

December 23, 2008  01:10 PM ET

I am telling you guys... Kiffin can coach... I mean hell... He had the Raiders looking halfway respectable early this year.... It pains me to say it... But Tennessee is going to be real good... Real soon

December 23, 2008  01:11 PM ET

Green didn't get an offer from Florida, which makes me wonder a.) how good he really is, b.) if he just didn't fit UF's system, or 3.) if he has the grades.

December 23, 2008  01:13 PM ET

Sorry, Rivals says he didn't get an offer from Florida. Scout says he did.

December 23, 2008  01:36 PM ET

West Virginia is gone? Hmmm, if they could only play teams for the mighty SEC they would win national titles every year....they haven't lost to an SEC team in what.....20 years....

not quite, if you put a lot of faith in playing mississippi state the last two years, good for you, other than that wvu has only played georgia (with wvu's best team in history) and mississippi once. besides them the last SEC teams they faced were South Carolina (L) in 95' and Florida (L) in the Sugar Bowl 41-7 in 94'

Psssh, Georgia's not an elite program.

I agree and they will soon take their rightful place as third in the SEC East as Florida and Tennessee battle it out over the forseeable future.

Give Tennessee 2 years and they'll be back battling for the top of the SEC.

December 23, 2008  03:44 PM ET

You guys in SEC country really believe it is the best confrence, lets see what you say after OU kills FLA, and since the real UT beat OU does that mean the BIG 12 is the best confrence. Notre Dame Fan In Texas

December 23, 2008  03:48 PM ET

The best defense in the SEC will be in Tenn in a year or two since Lane's dad Monty is comming to help!

since Mark Richt took over at Georgia 01'...

1. Georgia 81-22 2 SEC Titles
2. Florida 76-26 2 SEC Titles
3. Tennessee 68-34 0 SEC Titles

put into perspective.

December 23, 2008  04:06 PM ET

gee are you really a Notre Dame fan in Texas? the name NDfanNtx didn't clear that up. nice "shot" post after Jan 8th. enjoy the Hawaii Bowl what's next the R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl? so that's 28-21 since Weis took over, when was the last time ND beat USC? wow the Bob Davie era, so he's been on ESPN for what a decade? never mind just since 01' but hey the Fightin' Irish do have a combined record of 49-37 since then. just one more question when was ND's last bowl win?

VolFanHenry, question: you get tired of hearing about Brandon Spikes in Shelby?

oh my god do i ever! However, I have to hand it to him. He's a beast.

December 23, 2008  04:20 PM ET

And yes Seth, I know TN has been a distant third this decade. I'm just hoping the Lane Kiffin era will help the stars align so that Tennessee will be much more competitive.

I love how everyone assumes that UGA is going to be crappy from here on out....just remember that last year UF was 9-4 and lost their bowl game.....Bama lost to UL Monroe last year....and then look how good both those teams are this year. Things can change in a hurry...I think UT is going to be tough with Kiffin but Tenn has always been tough to beat for UGA...and UF seems to have all the momentum right now but we'll see what happens when Tebow and Harvin are gone....my point is UGA's "rightful place" in the SEC East is NOT 3rd and we're not going anywhere with all the talent we have coming in. You're not getting rid of us that easily. LOL
