Chizik in no rush to hire new staff

New Tigers coach Gene Chizik hasn't announced the addition of any assistant coaches since he was hired 12 days ago, although interviews have taken place, according to people familiar with the process. Should Auburn fans be worried? No, say college coaches interviewed by The Birmingham News. Chizik spent his first week on the job talking to high school seniors before the recruiting window shut for almost three weeks. He has spent the time since then trying to assemble his staff. He has conducted some interviews, said someone familiar with the process. Chizik doesn't need his staff on board until Jan. 5, the next time college coaches can recruit in person. Still, this is a far cry from the last time Auburn hired a new head coach and his ready-made coaching staff.

He's taking his time because no one wants to be on a disfunctional, days are already numbered staff.

I disagree with the article and think this is a bad move. News of his hiring was so negative that he could use a good assistant hire as a way to get some good press. But by waiting so long it won't even make the news in most places when he names his staff. So the only thing kids will hear about him taking the job is what a huge mistake it was by Auburn.

A lot of people questioned the Kiffin hire, but Chizik just keeps making him look better and better.

And that led to its own troubles. The "ready-made coaching staff" was the Barbecue Boys, and the inability or unwillingness of Tubbs to get rid of them was what led to the problems this past season.

he is waiting until after all the other teams are finished with their seasons to speak to coaches who may be unavailible right now or waiting until after the bowl season to see how some potential coaches shake out.

LOL!!!! at svtjer!

If the staff he had at his previous gig was any good, why wouldn't want to bring some of them? Are they going to stay for the new coach?

I don't think there are any that want to relocate for only two years. Thats about as long as its going to last before they make another change.

Auburn made a mistake forcing a coaching change. It's an indicator that they don't value consistency and effort from a coach/staff/PLAYERS. It will get a lot worse for them before it gets better.

The Auburn administration totally cracked under pressure from Alabama and Nick Saban.

Golfer has it right, it will get worse before it gets better.... Alabama will mop up in recruiting this year and will only be getting stronger over the next few season while Auburn wollows in mediocrity...

Coach Chizik is experienced enough to follow his own path. Other new head coaches have met with adversity upon their arrival to a head coaching position. Some of done well...others poorly. It will be interesting to watch and see if the Auburn fan base works with him or against him.

Anyone who thinks the non-hiring of Turner Gill was rascist is completely wrong. It was a bad idea to fire Tuberville and Chizik might not be the best, but at least he has Auburn ties. Gill has no Auburn ties and went 14-22 before one game that made them the MAC Champion, which got attention put on the coach. Buffalo was 7-5 playing 12-0 Ball St. They were the fourth best team in the MAC. They didn't deserve to be in any championship game and Turner Gill didn't deserve to be interviewed by Auburn just because he's black. He needs to win first... more than one game.
