Reports suggest that New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo can begin talking to teams about head coaching opportunities as soon as next week. Whether he will or not remains in question. For the most part Spagnuolo is keeping his priorities focused on this season. Potential candidates, as listed in Newsday, include the Cleveland Browns, Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals.

It is just a matter of time. He learned under Johnson and Reid in Philly, Coughlin in NY. He is ready. Hate to see him go, but he would do a fine job. I do believe he turned down an offer from the Redskins last year. So, it will have to be the right fit...But it is the natural progression for good coordinators from winning teams..

I really thought he'd made his case since last year. I'd consider the Bills ,but Cleveland and Cincy,or the Lions ....don't do it.

There is at least some talent already in place in Cleveland and Buffalo. He'll need a solid Offensive Coordinator in Cleveland. They weren't as good as their 10-6 record last year but I don't think they are as bad as their 4-12 (likely) mark this year. But he'll have his hands full dealing with Edwards and Winslow. The Bills looked great at the start of the year...maybe Buffalo is the best spot for him.

GOD please let the Eagles know that he is available - I know they are undera bubble right now - but would be great to have him come home....

It's too bad Edwards and Winslow tend to be malcontents and the such. Brownie fans deserve a little better.

I would not trust the Bills owner. That is a franchise that is looking to increase revenue any way it can. He could end up in Toronto. Of even worse, LA, where NFL teams go to die..

Buffalo is the most attractive of the three jobs. Even if there is some talent in Cleveland, they run a 3-4 and in my mind don't have the pieces in place to run the blitz happy 4-3 that Spags favors. Buffalo's pass rush isn't great, but at least they have a good DT in Marcus Stroud and OLB Kawika Mitchell, who is familiar with Spags and excelled under his system with the NYG. I don't think he'd go back to Philly, considering the fact that he worked under Jim Johnson there and doesn't do much more than run the same system with a more talented front 4 in NY. Regardless, Spags has done a great job in NY and although I'd love to see him stay, he deserves a head coaching job.

There will be at least six opening in the NFL this year for a HC spot...

If the Chargers do not win, or if they stumble in the play offs, Norv Turner. Edwards in KC may have run its course. I do not believe J. Jones if the Cowboys put out a bad effort, Mangini is no lock in NY if the Jets lose, The Raiders, The Rams, Reid is safe in Philly.

December 27, 2008  09:18 AM ET

He has earned a shot-
That being said- he shouldn't simply jump into a bad situation
if he is patient, a GOOD coaching job will come along- ie
Pittsburg a couple years ago....good management = POTENTIAL
long term success.
if he goes to say the raiders, Cincy or the loins- he's doomed to fail

Browns, Bills, Bengals as stated. Add the Lions, Rams, Raiders. Good possibilities: The Chargers if they lose or stumble in the play offs, I do not believe J. Jones, if the Cowboys do not put out a great effort he will look hard for another HC. Edwards in KC and Mangini in NY are not locks to be back. And I would not be surprised to see Gruden take a walk if they blow a play off spot.

Edwards for sure ,Crennel is toast ,hopefully Marinelli gets tossed ,Mangini definate possibility, God forbid anyone take the Raider job for fear of having their very soul drained by Davis, I thought Reid was gone and now I'm not so sure. The Rams for sure. Heck we could have 6+!

December 27, 2008  09:25 AM ET

Oh yeah Marv Lewis needs to be purged too.

A brillant defensive mind as head coach to a young Offensive coordinator? Dallas? Jason needs work. He needs work on his offensive play calling. Maybe this guy could straighten him out. Plus, Dallas needs a tough minded coach. Someone to get in their faces, to make the players hate him but play hard for him. Someone to shut TO up and stop Williams before he becomes a TO. Someone to look Romo in the eyes and tell him to get his phuckin head on straight or we go shopping another QB.

LOL..You have started your new Christmas wish list for next year early.....You are right about Romo though, Garrett and Phillips are the worst thing that could happen to the guy. He needed people like Parcel and Sporano to get in his face....He is not a self motivated type person. He may not be alone...

Parcells would NEVER let Romo play the way he needs to play-
- Romo is a scrambler- parcells likes drones that make no mistakes
Romo is a Farve-type....will get you big plays, but will throw
almost as many ints.....that's his game- you take the free-wheeling
out and he's basically neutered

Spags has never run a 3-4 defense which some of these teams who MIGHT be looking for a head coach have (Jets, Dallas, etc.). Maybe the frugal Giants will bump up Spags salary once again this year. This situation is starting to remind me of John Fox and I don't want to see the Giants get stuck with a nitwit like Tim Lewis.
