Mets still talking to pitchers

The Mets continue to try to sign one more starting pitcher, but general manager Omar Minaya said nothing is imminent. "We're talking, we're having discussions, but nothing's going to happen in the next day or two," Minaya said by phone Wednesday afternoon. Several reports online had the Mets close to agreement on a four-year deal with righthander Derek Lowe. Minaya said Lowe is just one of several pitchers the Mets are in negotiations with, along with Oliver Perez and Randy Wolf. The Mets stand a strong chance of eventually signing one of those three starters. Minaya said it wouldn't happen in the immediate future, though, urging: "Go enjoy the holiday."

can't have too much pitching.....
but what about your outfield omar?

December 27, 2008  10:04 AM ET

If his name was Derek Lopez... he would have already been signed by the Mets.

I agree with adding Lowe, perez, or wolfe. But Omar have you noticed the lack of a right handed bat, Surely you do not believe Tattis is the answer?.

I'm conflicted on the outfield. I like the idea of giving Murphy a shot out in left. But I wouldn't mind upgrading RF with Abreu, I'm just not sure what Church will do after last year.

Your an idiot. Welcome to the freakin 21st century, a lot of the best players in baseball ar Latino (if I'm not mistakin your overpaid team has a few). Omar signs and trades for the best people he can get, this whole idea that he only likes Latino players is crap. He did just trade for Putz, and for Church and Schneider last year, no? He did lock up David Wright and John Maine. Get a clue buddy, go down to Arizona and build a wall or something......

that's extremely true. the white boys on the mets r products of their farm system and trades not free agency (besides billy wagner). the mets could use another lefty that's why they should be leaning towards wolf or perez

And Omar has nothing to do with those trades? He has no say in the farm system, and who makes the roster? Why is it the Mets are the only team that gets accused of this crap. Is it just because Omar is Latino? Wake up you morons, EVERY TEAM HAS A LOT OF LATIN PLAYERS! What, they should have signed Kerry Wood or Hoffman over K-Rod?? Kyle Losche over Johan?? Please, its called signing the best player available!

So Here's The Deal

For the Mets to be "serious" contenders in their inagural season at Citi ideally the starting staf is Santana, Lowe, Perlfrey, Maine and Perez. That alone won't do it, one has to question how many years has it been since the Mets had a rock solid corner outfielder, you would have to go way back? Time to stop fooling around with old baggage, or hope an prayers they need a banger, a pure hitter a can't miss guy, now I'm not a Manny fan be he along with 5 solid starters and revamped loaded pen will ensure a trip to the World Series. Mets stop putzing around, open the bank vault and field a pennant contender. The money's there, jsut don't go crazy signing aged players to long term deals ala Castillio. Speaking of Castillio although I hate the gut I feel he will come back strong this year. Wishing thinking, hey it's the merriest time of the year,
