Gators may sign just one RB
There was a time not too terribly long ago when rival coaches of the Florida Gators could convince big-name running back recruits that UF coach Urban Meyer's spread-option offense wasn't designed for a consistent ground attack. That argument isn't valid anymore, but just because UF was a run-first team this season doesn't mean the Gators will sign a wealth of talented running backs on National Signing Day in February. The Gators lose just one running back, senior Kestahn Moore, after this season and UF returns its three leading running backs: redshirt freshman Chris Rainey, freshman Jeffery Demps and redshirt sophomore Emmanuel Moody. Junior Brandon James also returns. The crowded backfield has led to just one running back commitment for the Gators (Mike Gillislee of Deland). Ranked eighth nationally among all-purpose backs by Rivals, Gillislee is a talented player who could compete for playing time as a true freshman. UF is still recruiting Pensacola Escambia running back Trent Richardson, a five-star recruit, but Richardson is committed to Alabama. Like Florida, Alabama returns several running backs next season, so there's still an outside possibility the Gators could nab Richardson in the final month of recruiting.

Uh oh... Moody is going to be in a tailback rotation again... All of you D-2 schools get ready to pounce... There may be a running back... Available soon

There is a lot of competition at Florida for any position, since we have such a depth of talented players. Moody has done okay, but he's no Emmit Smith. Hopefully, he will do better this next season. Our most successful running comes from these small guys that are lightening fast and evasive, like Harvin, Rainey and Demps. Of course, a strong heavy runner for the short yardage also ciritical.

Bad move. UF is about to lose the most effective runner they've had in years... and he doesn't play tailback. Rainey and Demps are very good, but Moody is nobody to worry about. If Rainey or Demps goes down with an injury, UF will be VERY thin at tailback.
As I said, however, neither Rainey nor Demps is their most effective runner. Without the threat of Timmy in the backfield, neither of these guys is going to see the kind of daylight that they saw this year. It's kind of strange to me... As much as UF Homers love Timmy, they don't seem to recognize the myriad problems his departure will cause that offense.

My point is this Gatortini... He left us here at SC... Thinking the grass was greener... Looks like his move may have backfired.... Now he is pretty much stuck

No offense that has a player like Tebow at QB would be as good when he left, but even if he does leave (which isn't clear at all), UF will probably be fine. Moody's not leaving; a D2 school wouldn't give him the level of competition he needs to impress pro scouts. Brantley and Newton are not Tebows but they'll run a slightly different offense very well. Newton has incredible potential if he could get consistent reps in practice. If Newton's not reinstated, Brantley may not be a true dual threat QB, but he's got a rocket arm, can run pretty well and should put on more muscle; Moody has been improving each game (Gillislee will probably back him up most of the time); Rainey will be healthy again, and both he and Demps will probably put on a little more muscle; James will be back. Thompson, Nelson, Carl Moore, Cooper and several freshmen who haven't had a chance to shine this year: all back. UF will also have most of its starting O line from this year, including Aaron Hernandez, who is only a fraction less great than Cornelius Ingram.

if florida wins the bcs game i doubt meyer will still be at fla. in 2 years. a little of topic but he seems like a coaching nomad always looking for the bigger better deal and some pro teams will give him the keys and let him go to work where he will then fail.

Bunch of boneheaded comments on this board.. Moodu is a stud and will havre a great season next year. Tebow will return, Harvin will go to NFL and so will Spikes leaving 17 returning starters on a finally maturing team that will need to work younger running backs into the mix eventually, but why bring another back in now,it would be better to recruit more linebackers and linemen which Florida will need after next season and the running back position will be fine 2 years from now with 1 or 2 redshirt freshmen behind those backs.

huh...and I'd say it has still worked out pretty good for them. That is what makes the "Spread" so crazy; everyone shares the wealth.

yeah I agree... moody would've been in the rotation at SC if he would've stuck it out... he was a tough runner from what i saw when here, then he goes to a spread attack (like he's gonna get more touches there)... if he moves now though he's dust

Only natural that when a team has good freshman running backs, recruits won't want to go there. It's a cycle at any position. UGA had that problem at QB... no one wanted to go there because they knew Stafford was starting as long as he stayed. UF is getting linemen and LBs, which is what they need the most. And btw - who knows what offense will be run next year with Mullen's departure.
On Moody... he is a good back. Not great, but good. If he fumbles and doesn't block well, he will play like he did this year. Whcih means few meaningful carries, and a lot of time with the 2nd team in blow-out wins.

Calling Moody a "stud"? Now THAT'S "boneheaded". He's such a "stud" that he had to leave USC because he realized he'd NEVER crack the starting line-up there. Then he arrived at UF... where he couldn't crack the starting line-up ahead of two FRESHMEN. OOOoooh Wheeeee, teams tremblin' in their cleats about having to face that guy!

Brown is the best player, but back to the topic. This is a pointless topic since Rainey and Demps are so young. But Harvin was the difference maker in the run game this year. He put a level of worry in most coaches' head this year that made them shift how they played defense to account for him. Add that to Tebow's power and it made Rainey and Demps that much better. When Harvin was out for the SEC title game the Gator's offense looked very different (in effect not scheme).
We all know there will be some sort of drop off once Tebow and Harvin both are gone, but just how much depends on coaching. If the other schools continue to be too dumb (or racist if you buy into that) to hire Charlie Strong, and Meyer's new O-coordinator can call passing plays as well as they call running plays from the spread then the Gators should never call below 9 wins. If they try the same plays with the lower level of personnel they will be in trouble since their schedule will include regular season games with Miami, Alabama and the rest of their normal schedule during the first two years post-Tebow.

You mean, how do I feel about the fact that we have the best punter AND kicker in the nation? Or do you mean, how do I feel about the fact that our punter/kicker can almost beat Wisconsin by himself? The answer to both questions is: GREAT!
BTW, do you realize how stupid you sound making fun of our offense after they put up 35 points in a bowl game?
Try insulting someone whose team DIDN'T win their bowl game in a blowout, dumbass.

You know...I'm pretty sure Meyer knows what he is doing...I don't think he would use Demps and Rainey if Moody was the "best" at practice. If Moody earns it, you will know...he will know. Let's keep in mind, the way he runs this offense, we don't really need an RB, just an ATH/RB/WR.
