No one in the state will draw more attention on signing day than Jarvis Jones of Carver-Columbus, the super-sized linebacker. He is ranked as the state'ss No. 2 prospect by the AJC and is considered to be the rare type of player who can make an instant impact on a college team's fortunes. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound Jones has narrowed his choices to Florida, LSU, Georgia, USC and Texas. Even the colleges recruiting Jones are saving the majority of in-home visits for January. Jones said he will announce a college decision on Feb. 4.

well if ya wanna play a BIG TIME LB in a BIG TIME SCHOOL, USC's LBS are all graduating this year, hope he heads west to the COLISIEUM!!

December 28, 2008  12:02 PM ET

it doesn't matter who is coming back at any school at the linebacker position. This guy will go straight to the top of the list on the depth chart. USC is no more interesting than the other choices when it comes to playing time.

C'mon Jarvis. We will give you a sweet home in Texas. Will Muschamp will make you the Best that You can be, and you will win two National Championships while you are there. Maybe three. We have the best High School QB in the country coming in, and with you on board, we'll win it all. C'mon Jarvis...Hook 'Em to Texas!!

December 28, 2008  12:59 PM ET

Be smart Jarvis... Not only will we have 2LB's going high in the 1st Round this year.... We took a walk-on.... And made him into a mid-round pick.... The best way to prepare for an NFL career... Is to come to SC

Why would he go to California where people don't even care about college football? He'll stay in the SEC, and if he were smart will go to Georgia. Maybe Texas, if he doesn't mind moving that far west. LSU is done without Saban and his recruits. Florida is gross and trashy. I'd put money on him staying in state and playing alongside Ellerbe.

You're all crazy !!! Spike will be the first LB taken in this year's draft and Javis will step in to his shoes and play for the National Champion FLORIDA GATORS.

I love college football and I'm from California; so are many of my friends who love college football. Just because we have "other activities" besides college football in LA as oppossed to Gainesville, FL (which is a great place to go to college). does not mean we do not like or love college football.

trojan904, it looks like you went to usc. im sure that an onus is not put on spelling, but its Coliseum

December 28, 2008  02:48 PM ET

Jon 0738, Even if Jarvis committed to UGA he would not play alongside Ellerbe, who is currently a senior.

December 28, 2008  09:22 PM ET

if he want to play for a great defence and a great coach,he should go to alabama and team up with maclain, hightower, and this year recruit nico johnson, who will also play as a freshman also.

December 28, 2008  10:15 PM ET

i bet he stays home

December 28, 2008  10:35 PM ET

Come to Texas! The Longhorn defense will be stout, but not since Derrick Johnson has UT had a real force at LB. UT could really use someone like Jones, and I have no doubt he will be given every opportunity to succeed at school and football if he commits there. Looking forward to another fantastic season in '09 with Colt, Shipley, & Co. GO LONGHORNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you ever been to Gainesville, FL? We may wear jorts in The Swamp, but Gainesville's a very cute, liveable city, so don't go saying it's "gross and trashy" if you've never been there. Besides, I've been to Georgia and I wasn't very impressed.

If this guy has speed and good reaction to the movement of an opposing offense, Florida will take a serious look at him. We've produced some good linebackers in recent years that are doing well in the NFL, which is another plus for our program. If Brandon Spikes decides to go pro after the SECCG, I'm sure the Gators will be considering this kid.

We're almost too full up with LB's as it is. In 2 years we will have the best LB group in college, hands down.
